I've never actually shipped a bow before.  All of mine have gone to local people.  I built a good, hell-for-stout crate.  If the bow doesn't make it intact, it's only because God didn't want it to get there.    ;)

One last thing to do and I'll be ready to ship. This style of bow does live up to its reputation. A little bit thumpy, and not that quick. But does seem to do decently with a heavy arrow to calm it down without losing much speed in the process. Once you hit a 27" draw it smooths out quite a bit too, I can't hit 28" so I can't comment there. I put several dozen arrows through the chronograph to get a good idea of performance of this style of bow. I was underdrawing as my normal draw is 26" and me stretching can touch 27" without going to a warbow draw and jumping to 30". I used 625g arrows, so about 12.5 gpp is I reached the full 28" draw. When I would stretch to about 27" I would get a consistent 136-138fps and at 26" I would get 128-131fps. So I would expect a touch over 140fps wth a full 28" draw. Which it was pulled to many times in the tree. With a 450gr arrow I would get 141-145fpa from my 26" draw. So not much speed difference for almost 200gr of arrow weight. I'm liking the Bluetooth hookup with the Caldwell chronograph as I can snapshot and upload actual speed numbers.

Well, Victim, your bow is on it's way....

Surprisingly, it cost less than $40 to ship from Colorado Springs to, well, somewhere back east...    ;)

The story behind the crate is that I couldn't find any kind of shipping carton, ready made, large enough to ship a recurve.  Being a plumber by trade, my first inclination was to use a piece of PVC pipe.  SDR 35.  Unfortunately, it would have needed to be better than 10" in diameter.

That would have been ridiculously heavy and expensive.

So, I bought a 4 X 8 sheet of 1/4" underlayment plywood for $15 bucks and made my own.  Used some 2 X 3 studs I ripped in half lengthwise for the sides.  I already had the screws and wood glue, so it only cost me about $20 bucks.  Probably not cost effective for volume production, but I have enough material left over for a second crate.  Not too bad really.

Where I got a little butt hurt was the $20 for a roll of bubble wrap.  I had it in my head that would be cheap.

I guess my problem is that I'm old enough to remember what stuff used to cost.     ;)

The last step after shooting and wearing a spot in the finish, was to use a triangle file to cut shallow grooves and super glue in some ground charcoal powder. The arrow goes between the lines and your middle finger goes over the symbol on the back. The charcoal embedded lines should last much longer to the scuffing of passing arrows than if I just inked them on. A couple spots of finish over it all and it'll be ready to send.

Well I got tired of always having the excuse that I don't have time to work on my bow today, so when the wife and newborn went to bed at 9pm I headed straight for the garage.  Worked till 1am and got her glued up....
