Everyone should have received their victim's info from me now via PM. Let me know if it didn't come through.

My hat is off to Kelly for all his work over the years. I got all cross-eyed just trying to keep bowyers and victims and their info straight for 19 participants. I have no idea how he kept it all together back in the days when there were over 80 people!

Let's keep the progress updates happening on this thread. If I don't see something from you at least every 3-4 weeks, I'll be following up via email and phone. Now let the shavings and glass orders fly!

Which of these two styles should I go with: Osage English longbow or a black locust recurve?

I have to go to arkansas for a week so i wont be able to dive into mine till the weekend. I'm the same boat Monterey. I have a lot of wood but don't know what to build I want to build what my victim would like but I have no clue what that is. I'll be posting pics and hoping people share their thoughts.

Dannon

Tradbowyer,
What part of Arkansas are you coming to?

TradBowyer

Hot springs. I'm there one week a month

Putting aside the fact that I am not a recurve guy, I have never found anything more beautiful (archery related   ;)  )  than the perfect arc of an English Long/Warbow
Skeater who?

Dannon

Ok, just curious I live in Camden. About an hour from Hot Springs.

I couldn't sleep last night thinking about what design I'm going to pick for my victim...That's what it's all about.
Kyle, I would like to see both of those bows you mentioned, but my vote would be the recurve.

So, I have a question. If my victim seems to build only a certain type of bow, should I build something along the lines of what he builds, or should I build him something completely different?

I have some ideas either way.  This is gonna be epic!   :bigsmyl:

Well, one of the concepts of the swap is to be inspired to do your best work ever.  To me that can be interpreted to include innovation.  I'm going to build within the general parameters of my usual work but with a twist that I've wanted to explore for a while.

It could easily end up needing two builds to get it right.

Anyway, that's my take on it.

My take is that you start by building what you are best at, and what is a best example of your work. If that still leaves a couple of options, I would steer away from what your victim would build for themselves, as they probably build it exactly the way they want it and it will be hard for yours to ever truly stack up.

So confession: I originally told my wife when I took this on that I wouldn't be making a bow myself. But I just couldn't help myself. I was talking to someone on the phone on the other side of the house when I mentioned needing to figure out what to build for the swap and she heard me. Ruh-roh. I was hoping to time coming clean a little more favorably...

I'm not sure where I'm going with my victimizing.

First plan is to make some perfectly edge grain maple action wood for cores . See what that does for performance .

Here's a question or two that might help everyone ?

Ya like lighter colors or darker ones limbs?

Darker/ lighter riser?

Colored glass or clear?

Boo or hickory back?

Selfbow?

disclaimer, I don't need these things, but thought it would give my assailant ideas....

I was tryin to sucker my victim into giving clues. I can be artsy with different stuff, lol . Learned from Roy!

If everybody copies and pastes and answers the questions, victimizing will be easyierer.   :D
