"A lot of nice looking bows coming  together" x 2!

Al Dean

Man are there some sweet looking bows here and I'm sure they all shoot as well as they look.

Lots of good progress going here.

I wish I could take better pictures.  Andy, that layout pic is great.

Well, I must have jinxed myself with worry over three failed attempts last year... My trade will not tiller evenly and now I have a whip tillered bow.

I have a second boo backed Osage floor tillered and will begin to tiller tomorrow.

The boo was too thick on the first. I was in a hurry when I began and didn't check the thickness before glue up.. I'll try to salvage it later. Maybe it'll make a kids bow..

At any rate I sent Kelly a pm and now I'm working bow number 2.

Don't fret, $)@&?(. You'll get a bow one way or the other.

Stan

All these gorgeous bows are also adding to the stress and anxiety of getting out a nice shooter!
Just relax Red. I'm sure your bow will come out perfect. Just like last year!     ;)
Your bows are WELL worth the wait. Still my favorite

Some great work. as I was thinking ahead now that I have a black snake and copper head skin I was think about doing a combo ch/bs/ch skin the copper head would accent the last 8-10". Might put as orange or red stain on the back of the hickory before I put the skins on. The black rat snakes here have a lot of read in the skins.

School is out and I can open up the shop doors..
Have the bamboo ready and the yew slat ready..

Pictures will be posted tomorrow..or the next..the kings are beginning to run in my local river...might have to take the kids and the boat out and try my luck.

Geeze guys! I'm gone for a few days and bows are just landing all over the place.

I've done a little reworking of my swap bow after the tip shearing debacle. Got new overlays on, retillered a bit, and it's been shot quite a bit at it's intended draw.

I can only imagine, I probably looked like I was shooting a yumi drawing back to my ear to get the proper draw length, but it seems to shoot well ...

I think I have lost a bit of speed in the break-in process, but still respectable ... I'm confident my recipient will be happy. Currently it's slightly assymetric, top limb is about 1.5" longer.

Roy from Pa

LittleBen

Yes Roy, Assymetric ... also known as one tip sheared off and one didn't, so it was shortened the minimum possible only on the broken end.

One day I'll get the hang of this bow building thing a bit and won't be in a constant process of fixing my mistakes.

Al Dean

Ben,  I know several bowyers that make thier longbows that way.  I made one just to see what would happen.  Could not feel any difference.  I think it lets you keep more meat in the top limb.

Finally my swap bow start to take shape. Roughed out the riser and added an phenol/marble wood - overlay...

Swiss thats nice.
All of them are nice

They all look nice to me! Whichever one comes to my door might end up chasing big horns with me in August. Found out I drew a sheep tag in Colorado this year!    :archer2:

So I had a package on Friday out of the blue-it was the horn bow that scars sent out, and it's a beast.  Actually it's made of multiple beasts, but that's splitting hairs.  When I'm up and about from this bout in the bed I'll get some pictures.  It's absolutely perfect for wheelchair archery.  I couldn't have gotten any better from Saluki in my opinion.  Now I need to get mine sent to my victim.

Also, what's the recommended brace height and draw length?  Nothing was written on it and I don't want to break it.  Not gonna mess up a dream bow for lack of knowledge.

that's going to be a good one kevin and nice knife.

ed I am sure it is tillered out to the draw you requested. But PM scars to make sure. I know he did not want to post much info about it for you are the only one drawing a yard stick.

Spent the entire day on my trade bow. I'm still 8# over but with final sanding and such I think I will be on the high side of my victims weight. I hope you really like it %<>*+£€..... I really need to learn how to shape handles though. I am no where near as skilled as many of you. Here are some pics....

I couldn't pull the bow to my victims draw length... My shoulder was on fire just pulling the draw to where it is. Now to take a few shots tomorrow and finish her up this week.
