I like it Dannon, looking great so far.

I got the riser cut out and fit to my form last night. I'm hoping for a glueup tonight.

That picture makes the back side look much worse than it is... I promise there aren't splinters sticking all over the place.

What is the wood?  Looks kinda like black palm...

I'm tapering core lams today. I find this part to be tedious. It takes a lot of passes through the drum sander for each pair as I can only take a small bite at a time to prevent burning.
I'm preparing seven pairs so that I will have a choice of woods to match with the riser I use.

My bows are bamboo backed and bellied tri lams. I was grinding tapered core lams to build with. I have seven pairs ready now. Walnut, maple, cherry, osage and hickory.
I will be preparing a riser and bamboo lams next for a glue up. Hopefully the weather will be good tomorrow. It's a lot easier for me to work when I can have the door open in the garage.

How long have you been building BBB?
Did you learn on your own?
What is your core taper?
In January I went to James Parkers house and he showed me how he makes BBB
Wanting to see you finished bow

Max, I've been building backed and bellied tri lams for about 10 years. I learned how right here on TG. There was a lot of trial and error and I'm still learning. There's no hard and fast recipe as each piece of wood and bamboo is different.
Basically, I taper the bamboo back and belly lams from 1/8" to 1/16". The wood for the core lam has about the same taper rate, but the thickness will vary depending on the draw weight you want.
This is the one I built for last year's swap.

I built a total of 4 bows last year. Two failed for different reasons, one came in light, but a nice bow, and this one was a bit heavy, but it looks really nice and shoots well.
That's why I ground so many core lams. If I have a failure, I'll just move on to the next.
