CaptainJ

Here's a spine tester that stores easily.
Not finished up real pretty, just a prototype but functional.

And a video of the works:
Vimeo Spine Tester in a Box

If you link to the video on Vimeo there, you'll also find a Lego robot cresting lathe.

If there is enough interest, I may draw up some plans or do a build along for the Spine Tester in a Box.

Thanks!

I think a build along if definitely in order.  That is just way to cool, even if didn't check spine it would awesome, very nice workmanship.

Now that's cool as all get-out CaptainJ! Couple queations. Why are your end post set at 28" instead of the standard 26" for wood arrows? Or do you have it set for the 1.94 lb weight @ 28"? Also, does that dial indicator run backards with that setup? Great craftsmanship all around! ART B

QuoteApex Predator asked:
Did you build it?
Yes. I got tired of the old beast taking precious garage space so I designed and built this one.

Ha! The reason it's spaced at 28" is because I goofed. My draw length is 28" and I've been helping my son build some cane arrows and just had the # in my head. Pretty funny, didn't notice until I looked at the video and heard myself say 28"! Ah well, two more holes to drill and then I can say I designed it to be adjustable!

As for the dial indicator, it runs forward and stands straight up. That's why I went with the lever -for ease of use and reading. The lever is actually a parallelogram so the hook and press travel straighter up and down rather than sweeping in an arc.

Thanks for the encouraging comments gang!
And thanks Art for assuming I knew what I was doing!

I think you have won the traditional innovative idea of the year award with this one!

No kidding, Apex!  I agree...and Capt'n, do you sleep at night or do ideas like this continually keep you up?

Amazing! Great job.  OK, I was starting to build a basic barebones tester, and now I want to smash it in shame.  Neil
didn't understand - now I do.

traditionalman

I would love to see how to make one. Please do a build along.
