It was a long season so far. I've seen and passed up many bucks. Had a couple mature ones up very close, only too dark to shoot or obstructions. I did manage to take two does. Then on Friday Dec 30, after passing up two young bucks, I notice a little disturbance in the thickets nearby. I had been rattling earlier in the day, and called in two bucks the previous day, but this time I decided to stay quiet. Eventually I saw a young doe run back into the thicket. Five other does and fawns worked passed me to the south. Then from the direction opposite the other deer were heading, I heard a stick break. From the thicket the young doe was running around in, a nice buck appeared. He had a wide rack, dark forehead and a forked tine on the left side. He moved toward me and stopped 25 yards away. I readied my bow and position in the stand. I was in a cedar tree about 12 feet up. He started walking again directly passed me. At 16 yards I drew and shot. The arrow passed through the ribs. After climbing down, I found my prize 100 yards away lying dead. His body was big, although looked run down, which is common this late after the rut. Mike

One of the does I took this year. I usually hunt with aluminum arrows, but after injuring my shoulder this past summer, I dropped down in bow weight, and the tapered fir arrows I received from Chad Graham worked great.
