Good job Mike. Way to hang in there with late season perseverance. Late seasons can be tough and test us to the max... But that big old boy didn't have a clue who he was playing with. I'm proud of you as always. BW aka UB.

Congratulations with 3 fine animals Mike !

The Buck is Bull status to me ;)

...another that loves late season , which "usually" equates  deep snow and cold....not so much this way for a good many years now .

Thank you for taking us along , and Congratulations ....enjoy the many gifts given.....

I'd be surprised to find someone who can grind it out with such success like ol Mike Mitten. Never "luck" for you. Not many would be rattling during Christmas week in Illinois. Congratulations buddy.

Friend

Hunt #88, for me, this afternoon,,,

Durp - yes, I try to clean up blood etc to show the animal in the greatest respect when shown to the public
Kelly- yes, I do still hunt un-reclaimed strip mine. It was stripped in the 60s, and we are now struggling with too much bush honey suckle and autumn olive growth. not much light reaches the ground during growing season.  But, the topography alone provides security for the deer.
Friend- I know what you mean when you commit so much time to chasing one species. The mature whitetail buck continues to be one of this nation's greatest challenge.

Thank you all for your kind words. I hope you all have a great 2023 season. Our season closes Jan 15 hear in Illinois. I like hunting this time of year as the bucks start to get back on a pattern. Rattling a buck in out of his bed may work better this time of year as they concentrate around cold weather food source and the buck to receptive does ratio can be significantly increased.  Mike
