Hey guys....  Question....

So what have you found works best gluing up scarfed laminations to end up with good result ?

I have a method of cutting them although love to hear yours as well but my main focus is how to glue up without a multitude of issues. I am also assuming I should use epoxy to glue up

Thanks for any input guys...always appreciated    :bigsmyl:

Here is how I do the scarfs,I use CA but use more than a drop, and let it stay clamped a few minutes.

It's a few pics down the way...

A good rule of thumb... You want your scarf joint 7 to 1... Meaning for every inch you want the joint 7" long...  Longer is always better than shorter...  I make my joint on a disc sander where  I clamp a board on an angle around 7 to 1 and then slide my lam into the sander until I get a feather but square edge...  I clamp the pieces to a 1 1/2 x 1 1/2" piece of aluminum to make sure they are straight... Then I glue up joint and clamp it with titebond 2 wood glue...  Glue sets good enough in 1 hr. to move...

Yep, you gotta have the longer joint, especially if the lam has to bend for a deflex riser...

You're not that far from me Kenny. Maybe I will have to stop in and see you sometime that'd be cool. I've heard a lot about you over the years. All good. JF

Kennys method. I have a 2x4 with a rabbit that gives me a ledge to keep them straight while clamped and CA. And it they are thick I have a short sled with a hump that thins it to bend better.

Sure, you just have to read it like it was texted by big fingers on a little touch screen.
So it sounds like Stic has a chunk of wood with an open channel to register the lams against when he is glueing with super glue. And he also has a sled he uses to thin down fat lams before he grinds the scarf.
