Got the limb veneers cut and ground today

Also managed to get the riser cut out, well at least the accent stripe. Forgot to take pics though. Still have to sand up the joints a bit to get a good fit, then I'll get it glued up. Still can't do a whole lot get, but still plugging away slowly.

Those lams are sweet Joe- I need to try that sometime.

Dan, the frets looked too deep to repair. I left the bow strung to see what would happen and I could see the hinge slowly getting worse.
I put it out of it's misery half an hour ago.
It's too cold out in the garage to work tonight, but tomorrow, I'll start another one.

Dave I hate to hear that about your bow.

Cabbage those splices are great.

Trux that mosaic is cool.  Can't wait to see how much of it shows when your get the riser shaped out.

Troy that curve is gonna look sweet.  I sold my curve so I'll be looking foward to holding it when it gets to my house.lol

I'm gonna have to try one of those BB-somethings sometime. I really like the looks of those, especially the ones with the flipped tips.

Hey Trux, how thick are those mosaics? I've been thinking of trying that, but I don't know how thick to make everything so it bends good without cracking.

Hey Razor! sorry to disappoint but I guess you'll have to support the cockroaches., Looking good Troy.

Thadbow

Wow, you all are putting together some great looking bows!
I made my limbs out of black glass and now I am starting to feel guilty!  I might have to start over, thanks a lot guys   :deadhorse:

Thadbow, nothing wrong with using black glass. I've just about stopped using clear glass. It just cranks me to no end to build a set of limbs and then find those cloudy spots that simply kill the looks.

Joe- these are .060 thick with bow tuff glass on either side. They start out a little thicker because I glue them to one piece of glass first and then sand them to thickness.

Thadbow- I'm with Troy, nothing wrong with black glass....

I agree the clear glass can be most disappointing when you pull the tape off.  I only do clear on the belly and may stop that too.

Got a little done today- the riser has inserts and is ready for some limbs before I shape it. I got the lams rough cut and found some some black glass- need to get them ground and glued up this week.

Man, gorgeous bows, guys!
Sorry to hear 'bout your hickory, Dave. Last year my first attempt blew while I was tillering. Stuff happens.

D

Thadbow there is no reason at all to feel bad about black glass.  I think it looks great.

Well I got to hold ****************'s bow that whossbows built today and I must say that the zebra wood is some purdy stuff.  ****** will not be disappointed by no means and yes I did have clean hands.  Jeff you did a great job on her

Al Dean

Well here is where I ended up.  66" take down longbow, brown glass back, zebra wood belly under clear glass, riser walnut with zebra strip.  String 8 strand 450+ and 2 strand B-50 with padded loop.  Going to put one to two hundred arrows through it and if it shows no flaws it is on it's way to **********.
