Troy, Trux, & Al they all look great, be proud to give any of them a home, send them my way.

Dave, when they get that bad it's better to just move on sometimes.

wood carver 2

I hear you Dan. I chopped it for firewood and I have some more wood lined up ready to start again.
It's a good thing this is so addictive, otherwise I might get depressed.   :help:    :)
It also helps to see all the great bows being built . What a huge motivation it is!

I got my bow started this weekend.  Glued up yesterday and started shaping today.  Here's a rough shaped teaser pic.  It's got Kenny's angle cut gray actionwood lams under clear glass, gray actionwood/osage/paduak riser and osage/paduak overlays on the back.  I've got tomorrow off work and nothing to do but work on this bow.  Yes, it will be a good day.

Looking at all these super bows has me wondering why it took so long to get involved with this.

These are some great looking bows. Just have some final sanding and spraying left. Should be finished by the end of the week.

Some fine looking bows here guys.  I'm in a lull with mine for a bit.  Today was "lay cork floor in the bathroom day" this morning which makes it "take Ibuprofen day " in the afternoon.  I'll get back to my bow making soon and I'm still thinking about gearing up to try making bows out of glass.  Thank goodness I'm retired.  Time really flies faster the older I get.

I added a jointer to the collection this weekend. I'm hoping to do a little tuning tonight and maybe some grinding.  Time will tell.

I've decided to build a Seneca-inspired scalloped bow for this year's swap.  I've always wanted to make some woodland-style bows, but just never got around to it.  I started with a couple of red oak mock ups for me.  They exceeded my expectations.  These bows are easier to tiller than I had anticipated, are incredibly light, and are smooth, snappy shooters.  I tempered the bellies and induce some reflex; when they're through rehydrating I'll post some pictures.

My actual swap bow is made from hickory and is currently ready for low brace.  Once I get it tillered, I'll temper the belly and induce some reflex.  Then comes the fun...shooting it in and dolling it up!  :)

It was back to the shop today. Now it's really starting to look like a bow.

Limbs are now ready for the overlays. They are pulling straight and I even checked the weight.

Think I'll just say somewhere between 40# and 70#. Don't want to give to much away.  :bigsmyl:

Still have a boat load of sanding to do before I can start on the epoxy sealent. I'd still be sanding, but my fingers have just about had it for today.

I got a good start on two new bows. Both bamboo backed tri-lams. One with a walnut core and the other with an osage core.
What do you all think of a riser made up of two lams of spalted maple on the outside, two lams of padauk between them and a thin lam of walnut in the centre? Too much contrast?
The other riser is walnut and white oak.
