I understand this stalking your victim thing, but as a recipient, I think that at least half the fun of the swap is getting something new that you normally wouldn't build for yourself.  I haven't seen a bow yet that I wouldn't love to recieve and I about need to be put a bib on every time I open up this thread.  :D

I have the day off tomorrow so I'm hoping to get an early start on this year's bow even though the shop is freezing.  I need to decide though if osage or vine maple is calling to me this year.

Glass guys, you are pulling out all the stops with your exotic (or killer domestic) wood! I have about 2500# of wood coming in form a supplier in the next week , so I am holding off to see if anything beats what I got in my personal stash.

Kip, ya ever attempted a take down? I am thinking about making one but every time I think about cutting a bow in half I get a little scared.

If I do it Ralph it will be my second. It's not that hard in a selfbow. Now cutting a perfectly good bow in half well that takes some &@))$  :)

I cut a few perfectly good laminated bows in half.  Wasn't that bad.

A strange part of the bow, is that by turning that bow into a takedown, it was the second time I had to cut that bow in half..although cutting it the second time wore on the nerves a bit more than the first time.

Pictures of the process...  I'll work on clearing out the knots next.  It does have some nice reflex in it already which is a nice plus.

I love the reflex that thing has Goose.

Thinking my first I beam riser should go with my new form. Purpleheart sandwiched between some figured walnut.

wood carver 2

Very nice combination. I like the grain pattern in the walnut.

Walnut sure throws some good growth patterns and its reasonably priced too.  :)

This will be my second attempt at a self bow. The first one I made many attempts and now the bow sits in the corner as more of a trophy than a work horse. Hopefully this one will be different. It is an Elm stave that was very graciously traded by Pearls. I plan on a 64 ttt bow somewhere around 50+ pounds. Layed out the bow and started hoggin off wood with hand tools only. I think I get too impatient when power is involved. Here it is so far... some snake which makes it super cool... Thanks for looking

Still have a ton of wood to hog off one limb and in the handle area but slow and steady wins the race... Right?

Gonna still make a BBO bow to choose between which one is better for a swap. It felt great to get the ol draw knife back out today!

That's gonna make a cool bow, Justin.

I'm too scared to try a selfbow.  Maybe someday.

I just got word from Kenny that my laminations for my swap bow will be shipping out tomorrow.  Heck, I just sent him an email with what I needed two days ago.  The only way his customer service could get better would be if he hand delivered them.

That one has some nice flow

I might have a change in plans for my swap bow.  I scored this rare piece of black myrtle for veneers.  Ill have to take a few slices and see what kinda beauty she holds inside.

Trux Turning

Shawn-That should be interesting!!

Dmaxshawn

David its going to be really really interesting to say the least I couldnt stand it i cut the edge off just see whats inside and bingo pics to come.  Now too bad I need to wait to let it dry.

Dmaxshawn

Here's what the edge grain looks like.  Kinda plain to me.  Maybe it will get better deeper in.
