Millhimes, how 'bout a close up of your form/caul? Looks very efficient and interesting.

Nice looking bow, by the way!

Goose, I love the pics and posts, too! The ironic thing is, I have fits posting pics... Just a tecnological dumb@##, I guess.

kennym

Sanded some lumber a bud gave me. He said it was called tigerwood at the auction where he got it.It looks really cool.

Have the riser figured out, now for some veneers.... hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Since I had little luck sensing what my victim wanted, I may build an all (almost) tigerwood bow.
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Tiger wood is a great choice Kenny.  It looks pretty darn awesome under glass.  Got a buddy that has one.

Dan,

I know. I have a bow laid out on the stave you gave me at MOJAM but I was using that to try and show other how to do it. And I am planning on making me a bow from that stave. I have a stave picked out and can't decide if I want to split it for it is over 4" wide at the narrow end or just lay one out. It is a think save also. I not so sure I could not get a belly split off her either. Might get some pics up of the stave.

Goose that is going to be some bow. The great thing is I have never seen a bow I would not love to own come out of this trad.

Great work folks.

psychmonky

I keep thinking that. I'd be happy with any of em. I guess that's a good spot to be in. "Oh gosh. I wish I knew which of these one of a kind, custom made, works of art was for me!"

I feel exactly the same way as you all do. Every time someone posts pictures of a bow they're working on or describes some crazy looking exotic wood, I start wondering, will that one be coming my way?
It also makes me try harder to do my absolute best in return.

Just spread them to what you want. And thanks for the encourgement--joe

Millhimes

[/IMG]
Got some ajusting to do.
[/IMG]
Much better alignment.
[/IMG]
Got some more work to do with that.
[/IMG]
Got her tillered pretty close.I hate straight handles, they look so bad on recurves.
[/IMG]
Full draw.got the tips opening up the whole way like i wanted.Makes a bad looking tiller with half the limb straight.Do you guys think i should get her bending a little Closer to the fades? Sorry i am hogging this thread--Joe

Mill, I like it!

Goose, ya turn madness into beauty!

Mill I don't know much about recurves but it looks like it does need to bend closer to the fades. Right now it looks like that one area of the limbs is doing all of the work. Take it with a grain of salt though, because I have no experience with curves, like I said.

Here's what my final stalk produced. All domestic woods.

Bostgone walnut and myrtle for my riser.
Walnut cores
Myrtle veneers
Matching overlays
Horn tips from the plains.

Trux Turning

Man that myrtle is outstanding!!

kennym

Heres the start of the tigerwood bow, will have a phenolic I-beam , 1/4" black sammiched with 1/16" red.....

Thought about a buildalong, but its all been covered most likely...
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Good hunting D. Can't wait to see you work some magic on that myrtle

kennym

Here we are ready to glue her up....

The block I sawed 2 pcs 9/16" thick off of , then I'm going to flip the mating halves with the bookmatch grain on the outside of the bow so both sides look the same. Hmmm.

Wrapped up in plastic to keep the snot off stuff!! LOL

All clamped up, I use blocks and quick clampsto keep slippage to minimum, then C-clamp the glue joint, then loosen and retighten the quick clamps one at a time to make sure the C-clamps can do their work.

Stay sharp, Kenny.
