That's one fine looking bow there Trux, you did indeed recieve an awesome birthday present. I don't think I've ever got anything that nice for my birthday. I agree with Walt......go buy a lottery ticket!

Great job Greg, you are a true craftsman!

I got to do a little more work today. I took everyone's advice and used oil and heat to try and the string to bisect the handle. I bought a cheap heat gun at a home improvement store.

Here is the before.

In the jig. I went 1/2" past perfect in case it sprung back a little. Worked like a champ!

I also put 2" of reflex in it while I was at it.

And the almost finished product. Much better than the first picture.

Balding,
I need to see a top view of it on the press, if you got one or can stage one. I will be trying that soon and am thinking your gig is simple. I can make one like that no problem here.
Looks good by the way.

You have a hinge at the black circle.  Remove wood along the red lines.  When tillering a bow I always get the mid limbs bending first, then the ends near the tips and during the last stage the fades.

The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Ruddy,

You should also move the clip on your pulley string.  You want to approximate where the pressure of your draw fingers will be on the string.

Right now you look to be pretty much centered, which wouldn't be the case were you actually pulling the bow by hand.

thanx for the help fellas. i saw the hinges on both sides, ive been avoiding those like crazy, ive been fighting this stave from the beginning.

All I need to do now is get something to ship it in and there will be a new bow for someone to fiddle with.  Finished out today putting silencers on and getting them where they quieted the bow down considerably.  Here are the last three shots @ 20 yards with the bow before destringing for shipping.  After 200+ shots I don't know if I could get rid of it.  I know I'm excited for the recipient to get a bow that I would love to shoot this fall!

Well, my moose trip this weekend fell through (undependable partners canceling at the last minute....   :banghead: ) so I tackled two bow projects.

I finished up my first attempt trade bow (the one that came out too light and started to hinge).  It ended up tillering out quite well but light.  Finished up at 25# @ 26" which will be a good one for my local shop to loan to kiddos that come in.  I even made it ambidextrous since it will be a loaner.   :)

I also got my 2nd attempt trade bow ready for the short string and am working on a new style of tip overlays.  Heading out now for our weekly 3D league with my daughter so things will be on hold.  I'll try to get some pics up.

Very Nice Bows. I hope to be in this bow swap next year, but someone will be disappointed. I am new at building bows and cannot compare to the craftsmanship seen on here. Keep up the good work!

I've got my bow ready to ship in a 4" thin walled PVE pipe. She's heading east tomorrow and should arrive on Thursday.

nice going everyone.

I took out my bow from the hotbox and looked at it again for a long time. It's still drying...still drying.
