As usual, I misunderstood (and/or mis-remembered -   :D  ) what Mike told me about the glue ups. At the time I was more interested in what Mike was trying to teach my addled brain about making the wood into a bow, than where the wood (he so generously supplied) came from. In retrospect I do recall Arkansas, vice Alabama as well as Lindell Beene's name, which Mike also told (again) to Adam, just the other day when we were over there for Adam's intro to this art, before leaving for Iraq. It just didn't sink in the second time either    . Third time is a charm, snapper1d, I can be a slow learner sometimes   :knothead:

"making the wood into a bow" I thought the bow was already in the wood we just have to remove all the non-bow pieces of the wood.  Either way you done good!!

Adding this on here since it is finishing up of the same bow. I read Iktomiwicasa's Teutorial (on a primitive forum) re Cord Wrapping of handles. I liked what I read and saw and decided to try it on "Ol HB". Did it last night and put the finish coat on this AM (early) I have the pictures taken now and was about to post them but PhotoBucket is having trouble with some portions right now -  and mine is among those parts -   :(   . I will post them as soon as possible. The cord I used (not sure what it is - I bought a large spool of it at a yard sale) is a good, strong , a little stiff, type of cord. I'm pretty pleased with the outcome, both in looks and feel. One thing I varied on, was I didn't use my same bow finish (Satin Polyurethane) as the final coating of the wrap. Instead I used Tru-oil (I like it) both for speed and a contrast of glossy look and feel of the handle (wrap). Hope to be able to post the pics soon.

Lookin good Bernie.
What kinda cord is that?I like it.
Target archery is seeing how far away you can get and still hit the bull's eye. Bowhunting is seeing how close you can get and never miss your mark.

ber643

I wish I could tell you, 2traxx. I bought a large (like a commercial, 1 lb size) spool of it at a yard sale, just cause I liked it. It is good quality, real strong, a little stiff. If you thought you could figure it out I could send you a small piece in an envelope. Or if you wanted enough for a wrap about that size I could send that in a larger envelope. There was no lable of any kind on it. It looked kind of like something natural to me but I just went in and checked some of it - and it melts - so I guess it's nylon or the like - (Shhhhhhhh!   ;)  )

Thanks a lot guys. I must say that it is one heck of a feeling - one I never thought I would get to feel - starting archery so late in life as I did (I was 56). I am so glad that Mike wouldn't let me get away with that excuse any longer -   :D  . Now I fully intend to make a few more, at least.

I think I need to do mine that way. Pretty cool. I seen one done with twine. I wonder if you can get twine in green? I do like that color and I'm going to need a knife handle to match so now I have two projects to work on.

ber643

If you don't find green you can dye about 14 feet of it. The guy whos teutorial I followed said it takes dye well. (Or, I could send you a piece of mine - let me know, and give me a snail mail adee by e-mail or PM. You need "Dark Green" like this- LOL))
