Has anyone ran a heater inside a tent style ground blind?  I am making a set and was curious before choosing what to put up in this spot.  I would prefer no tent style but I am a wuss when it comes to cold. I found a spot in a swamp that is only tag alders.  There are so many trails I thought all day sits later this fall would be productive

Yes. Only once though. It was when I took my daughter out deer hunting her first time for gun season in northern Michigan. Used the Mr. Buddy Heater. Temps were in the 20's and she was comfortable enough to stay out all day. Had to actually keep turning it on and off 'cause it was getting almost too warm in there. Didn't have any issues at all. It did seem a little loud to me being inside the blind with it and me not being used to it, but I went outside and couldn't really hear it. She got a spike at 40 yds and it was on the whole time he was there. I normally don't like anything but a brush blind myself even while bowhunting but have to admit it did add a little comfort that was somewhat additive! Hope that helps a little.

Thanks, helps a bunch.  Part of my desire with this stand is to have a place for my nephew to Sit with me, dad or grandpa

I want to add, this will be an elevated tent blind, if anyone has experience with that as well.  I am not worried about one direction but wonder if I will be able to shoot down ward out of the window

As long as it does not make any noise it can be done.  I have used a radiant one and had deer 10 yards from the blind

Google tea light candle heater.

I made one of these a few years back for hunting with the kids in a ground blind during the winter months.  I used a rectangular flower pot that came with a tray. If you keep the gap small, very little light is created. 3-4 candles will warm the blind nicely as long as you don't have too many windows open.

Its nice to because I can just leave the inexpensive pot in the blind.  The only thing a have to carry in is lighter and a handful of candles.

I have used a Mr Buddy heater in a blind a few times, and it has worked well, without spooking the deer. I don't like cold, and sometimes wonder how you northern guys con hunt in the temps y'all get???

As far as the elevation goes, iou are going to have o play with it to see if it will work. IMHO, most rent blinds are made with the windows too high for the ground. That's why I only use homemade blinds now, so I can put the windows exactly where I want them.

A Mr. Buddy heater works great. I've use one in my DB blind during our gun season for several years.

How do we do it, North Dakota and Canada?
At least two of us: Heater Body Suit.
A wonderful creation.

At least where I hunt, it can get 10 to 20 below zero in November and colder later on. I can put all the wool I can handle on and MAYBE last 2 to 3 hours.

But that is sitting outside in a natural blind. For what you want, I have used a Big Buddy Heater with success.

Yes, I have a small propane heater that I carry during gun season if its cold. Works great in a shanty when ice fishing too.

Just a thought or a question, is there any worries about carbon monoxide in a small blind like that with those type heaters?

Roger Norris

I have a Little Buddy, and it works great. I only run it 10-15 minutes at a time. When the colds starts becoming uncomfortable, I turn it back on.

My other thought is to put a fence around the platform and stuff it with cover and cut shooting Windows where wanted.  But that doesn't enclose the area for heat

My gear using the tent style blind elevated 6 feet off the ground is that my nephew could still fall out, even if I staked the corners with screws.

Sounds nice Susan, However this is swamp the water table is at ground level.  I would have to cut through the ice to have a place for the coals    ;)      ;)      :p

I have used the small catalytic propane types for those days when the wind was howling and temps were low.   It was enough to keep sitting possible.

I use a buddy heater and have hunted down to -15 in the blinds  . When it gets really cold like below 0  I use a big buddy otherwise I just use the regular one.

Build a plywood box, Charlie!!! Built one for my Dad years ago after he had his double hip replacement. With those steel rods & hardware in his legs, he just couldn't stay warm. Sliding plexiglass windows & a roof vent, heated the thing with l little habachi grill! Kept him out there!!!
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

Lol Chuck. I build an elevated blind. Wrapped it up with fence which I will brush in. If it gets colder, I will erect the tent blind later in the season and put a heater in it.
