Has anyone tried making arrow shafts out of cattails? I was watching that Survival show last night. The guy was in the Rockies. He got down to a river and started talking about the uses of cattails. When he got down to the stalk he mentioned it makes good arrow shafts...? Don't know if he knew what he was talking about or not. I would imagine you would have to dry them and maybe take off the outer layer. Maybe have to shoot out of a low poundage bow too.

Snag1....
As a kid I used them, I would take an old record and cut out broadheads and use chicken feathers for fletching.
These arrows would stick about an inch deep in a fence post....
Remember back then, we didn't know anything about arrow spine arrow tuneing are anything, and yet we made it work and had a lot of "FUN"
I also used to put cardboard boxes out in the field, and then I would ride my bike on the road with no hands and shoot the boxes, My version of an Indian hunting buffalo....
  To be young again......
