My Dougfir arrows for this season made by my buddy Ron French (Treekiller) and can never say enough about his craftsmanship.

TRAP

I must admit I'm a bit of a wood arrow "junkie"

Here's a few that I've chosen to be the caretaker of for now. Someday I will pass them on to someone that can appreciate their history but for now I'll share them with you.

Pink arrow fletching is fairly common today but I don't see many examples of pink being used in the 60s.

These Sweetland Forgewood Hunters were ordered March 27, 1968.

Note the person ordering the arrows specified "no orange". Apparently he didn't like pink either because they were never used. They came with 1964 Bear Razorheads installed

Yessir! Some very nice work on here. Functional art, but some are just too purty to shoot. For me anyway. And some awesome history, Trap. I believe those ARTifacts are in good hands.

I notice the majority of Bear arrows are completely paint dipped. How do they (or don't they) orient the wood grain after dipping?
I sort of like the look, personally.

TRAP

The grain can still be seen through the paint on most dipped arrows.  When I dip full length, I mark the grain orientation on both ends (a sharpie mark parallel to the grain) and I mark the arrow rift with a mark up from that line.

I mark both ends like this prior to painting full length.

I had some woodies that my dad bought me back around 1969-1970, there were still a few hanging around in poor condition. I decided to re-fletch and repair them and ordered up enough nocks, points and feathers to do the job, but after really careful inspection decided they were no longer safe to shoot and retired them. Instead, I re-created the vintage look as best I could using new Larch (tamarack) shafting:

Nobody with any new woodies to add?
Planning on making up a few for my son as a Christmas surprise to go with his Kodiak Hunter "greenie". I'll be sure to post them here when I finish them!

Crappy phone pic, but my last batch of German pine, cocks are from a Merriam's my buddy shot in CO while we both lived out there.

Very nice, Damon. Is that dark stain or black paint in the center of your shafts? Very unique and sharp-looking!
