Thanks! I stained and wiped down a set of cedars last winter, but I was rather unpleased with the way they turned out, so technically this is my second shot. I decided I would go all the way on these: made a dip tube and borrowed a cresting jig a friend had built. Now to get my next batch of shafts ordered and my jig built!

Here are a few arrows I am experimenting with. They are Surewood shafts 45/50 # Doug Firs.

I used Mike Vines method of marbeling (excellent thread in the How-To Forum), but experimented with the base coat. That caused my Testors to run when I applied my Wipe-on Poly.

I am also experimenting with a 2 Fletch, 5" shield back feathers, with helical.

A hunt based only on trophies taken falls far short of what the ultimate goal should be . . . time to commune with your inner soul as you share the outdoors with the birds, animals, and fish that live there.

Just finished these. The shafts were a bday present from Hackbow! I wanted something bright! I love natural colors and barred feathers but they can be hard to see in low light.
I couldn't decide on pink or blue nocks so I did both!! They shoot good too!   3rd shot at 18 yrds

On April 28, 2012 I said this on this thread:

"thanks for this thread! This reminds me that I need to get back into wood..."

Having still not done it, I am once again being reminded.  Incredible arrows fellas.  A lot of love being put into these.  Next year I will not be shooting the bow I am now, I'll be shooting a snakey self bow made by my bowyer mentor and backed in snakeskin of my own procurement.  It just wont seem right not to match them with some carefully made woodies.  I'll be adding to this thread in a few months, mark my word!!!

These are going in my quiver this year and hope to let the air out of a nice bull elk with one in about a month.

Wow Ron your elk arrows are amazing! I understand they are footed with a darker wood but what's going on close to the broadheads? Looks like a footing over the footing but can't tell?
