I need to make a couple of targets for my Scouts and was wondering if anyone has a source for several burlap bags. I'm looking for the larger type bags like those used for Coffee beans. About 28" wide by 36" tall. The boys have been saving plastic grocery bags for stuffing. Thanks in advance.

I get mine at a local feed and seed store. However, they are not that big.

Starbucks?

They sell burlap by the yard at many sporting goods stores for pretty cheap. Maybe buy some sheets and sew them together with bailing twine? Good luck.

I work at a landscape nursery and when we bring trees in in the winter the trunks are sometimes wrapped with those coffee bean burlap bags. We have a huge pile of them in one of our buildings and I take one once in a while and stuff it with plastic. You might find some at your local nursery? Don't know if it would be worth the shipping to send you some.

I got some from Wally World, their's were the ones that some bricks and stones came in.
Also, you may want to try a coffee shop that does their own roasting.
Did a google and found this;   http://secure.mycart.net/catalogs/catalog.asp?prodid=4831245

I also buy mine by the yard at the local fabric store.  Actually I think I got the last batch at WalMart on sale.  Only cost a couple of bucks for two yards.  Fold in half and sew up the three sides with heavy twine.  That way they end up about 36" x 36".  A little bigger than the sacks that feed or what not come in.

They used to sell burlap target faces at WalMart that had deer pictures with vitals etc. They also made one with 2 field archery bulls on it.

You could get 2 and sew them together to make a big bag, then stuff it with the grocery bags.

Good Luck!!!!! Thanks for helping the Scouts!!!!!
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

Buy a cheap plastic tarp and a big bag full of black (uv resistant) zip cable ties. Fold the tarp in half.  Take a knife and punch holes every 4-6" along the sides of the tarp, inside the rope but through the hems.  Stick cable ties through the holes as you go and sew the "bag" shut with the cable ties all but the top. Start at the top corners and work down the sides to keep it aligned.  Stuff the bag and then sew the top shut with the cable ties.

You'll lose about a foot and a half from the dimensions when you stuff it so a 6' x 10' tarp will make a nice, big 4-1/2' x 3-1/2 target for the boys to shoot at.

Much better than burlap.  Won't rot, won't absorb moisture.  I don't even hang mine, just lean it against a tree and shoot away. Keep it out of the sun and it will last for thousands and thousands of shots.

Cheap, probably less than $15 bucks. Light.  Fast to make, maybe 20 min.

Benoli

Plug, your idea sounds great. We will be trying to make one of these. Thanks.

The auction site has a lot of coffee bags, some pretty cheap.
