Greetings all,

This is my first post here (I've been here for awhile learning as much as I can).  I am posting to ask for advice on ordering a custom take-down.  What I am thinking about is a take-down that has the ability to use both longbow and recurve limbs.  Can I get some advice on which bowyers make those and some opinions on the bows themselves.

Thanks much!

You might want to take a look at Horne's Archery and Bob Lee Archery. Both are top notch.

You can't beat Zipper bows and their longbow limbs are just as good as the recurves.

I'll second the Horne. Light, fast & pretty  :D

I'll third Horne Archery.  I have one of his 3-piece Combo Hunters with longbow limbs... and a 2-piece brush bow on order!

I have both the Horne and Zipper bows, and both recurve and longbow limbs.

My suggestion: Call each of the two bowyers..get a feel for the bowyer, and then try their bows.  Either way you won't go wrong.  Both are excellent folks to deal with and both provide a superior product.  The question really is: What bow will fit YOU!

I own a Combo Hunter and used to have both types of limbs. I really like the longbow limbs but found the recurve limbs kind of strange and sold them. That's just one man's opinion FWIW.

I have since gotten longbow limbs for my TimberGhost. By far my combo of choice!

Morrison Shawnee would be my pick if I wanted one riser to do both, with a 2nd place vote for the Horne Combo Hunter.

Thanks for the input. I will check out those bows tonight. Has anyone heard if Ancient Spirits does a combo bow? It seemed like that was talked about in one thread, but it wasn't real clear.
Thanks again,

yes they do make a combo. I believe its on the same riser as the sequoia and the recurve limbs were the same as the kadiak. Goldenhawk could tell ya more about them as he had one.

Chads right I did have one and it was a shooter. it had both recurve(kadiak)and longbow(sequoia) limbs both were smooth and quick fairly quiet. I would probably still have that bow if it weren't for it's length I just really don't like aboe over 58" and it was a 60".

Morrison Shawnee, Zipper, Anchient Spirits, or another good one is the Acaidian Woods Tree Stick. You can get curve limbs for it also. I have shot all except the Zipper. I expect it anyday now.

With the new ilf longbow limbs Lancaster's Archery has coming out there will be many combos that were not possible in the past.Any ilf recurve will become a combo if the owner desires it.  :)

James,
