Layers of Carbon?

When having a custom longbow built what would be the advantage of spending the extra money to have a couple layers of carbon put in?  Is it worth it?

I'm not sure.  Just had one lamination of carbon incorproated into a HH bow I had made for me.  Supposed to add a little more speed, which I think it does.  Is it worth the money?  Depends what you want.  Carbon is more efficient than glass, read that as faster.  Probably gives the equivalent in arrow speed of 2-3# more draw weight.  Doesn't seem to be any less stable.  Is it worth the cost?  Don't know.  I like it in the Hill, but after shooting a stick and string for nearly 50 years, I find that I'm becoming less interested in the fastest bow out there, or the fastest concoction I can wring out of a particular design.  So, in the future, I'll probably stick with glass.  Might also pay some attention to the core laminations.  I know some bowyers say it doesn't make any difference what the core is, but I think it does.  For me it's bamboo.  Bamboo is lighter, smoother and faster than any other core wood I've tried, all other things being equal.  But the differences are slight.  There are so many good bowyers out there that most custom bows will perform much better than our ability to shoot them.  Good luck.
