Just got back from a trip to South Dakota for a week of camping and turkey hunting.  I managed to take my first turkey with a bow using my Crow Creek longbow.  If I can figure out how I'll post a picture or two.

Congrats!!!  I just shot my first turkey too.  Can't wait to hear the whole story and see the pictures.

We gotta hear the details.

You can't just leave it at that.

Pic have been e-mailed to you Jason.  Thanks for the assistance.

We set up my blind near a morning strutting area with a hen and strutting tom decoy.  A group of 5 jakes came in looking for a fight.  I shot the largest at about 15 yards and had a very short recovery.  My buddy (compound shooter) shot his at about 20 yards.  It was my first turkey with a bow and was his first turkey period.  If you have never hunted merriams in the Black Hills you are missing out on some of the most scenic turkey hunting there is.  This was my second trip out there and I will be back.  We even took a break and went to see Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse.  On a side note, after watching me stump shooting around camp and having so much fun shooting my bow my buddy decided on the trip home that it was time for him to ditch the compound and pick up a recurve so he could start having fun shooting again.

Great job!  A nice turkey, a nice trip AND a conversion from training wheels.  Nice work!!!

Mickey, yes we were on public land.  We camped out for 5 days and watched the sun go down listening to turkeys gobbling on the roost from camp while sipping a cold adult beverage.  Life was good!  My buddy also filled his firearm tag with another jake later in the hunt.  I had a chance to fill my shotgun tag with another jake but passed in favor of a mature gobbler that just didn't come close enough.  Minus the cost of gas driving out there, we spent a whole $250 on this trip (including licenses).  Last year I did the same hunt with a shotgun and killed a big gobbler the second morning of the hunt and my buddy killed his the third morning.
