I can get horizontal flooring at HD and am wondering if I could use it as riser material?  If so, how to glue?  It is 3/4" thick and I'm not sure if I need to glue it up and cut the riser out of the flat or the edge.

I'll likely use some hardwood or similar in between each piece...people who have used it, let me know if I should go a different way or if this might turn out OK.

Initially it will be for a LB riser (although I have a crazy idea depending on how it need to be cut/glued up)...~1.5x1.5x18 .

300 lb leaf, formerly known as Mich Mt Man makes them. He posted pics and they look pretty good.

Hopefully he'll chime in...I'll do some searches on his handle...thx

I just ordered a longbow from an elderly gent that lives within 15 minutes of my house who is making longbows using the bamboo flooring.  He uses the flooring for the riser and he also cuts and sands lams out of the material.  The bow is all bamboo flooring except for the brown glass that he puts and the back and belly of the limbs.  The bows are very quiet, very still in the hand, very smooth and rather quick for a basically Hill style longbow.  I should get mine next week.

Great...I kinda figured that the flooring in general could be used...I do wonder, however, if hte horizontal is OK and specifically how it needs to be glued up or cut (if it matters at all).

Thanks for the info!

I did a quick search for michmntman and didn't come up with anything...hopefully his posts weren't lost when he changed...likely I'm spelling it wrong.

Thx

Bill, sounds like the kind of bow I like.  Do you have contact info for him?

Also, when did you decide to buy other bows again?

Cutty,

I bought my original trad bow from the elderly gentleman a bit over 7 years ago.  I shot one of the longbows he brought into the Archery Shop 2 weeks ago and after one shot I told him "I want one!"  When I asked him how much and he said "$250.00", I took $250.00 cash out of my billfold and paid him up front.  He told me it would take 3 weeks because he had materials, i.e., glass, on order.

Mr. Jones phone number is 843-761-2434.  Tell him Bill Lamb gave you his phone number.  He may not recognize me as WildmanSC.  The name doesn't fit if you know me in real life.    ;)

I'm new to the bowyers trade, but long on woodworking experience. This vrtical grain bamboo flooring is excellent material! i just worked with a bunch of it this week and have lams milled for several bows right now....light weight, strong, flexible, with good snap to it, or memory....i'm thinking this stuff would make an excellent board bow with no fiberglass at all....i'll be trying that one when i run outy of glass i'm sure.....

Riser wood????  No problems i see at all...the factory laminations are excellent.... Kirk

Having said all this.....i must add....All bamboo is not created equal....but the new technology in lamination of this engineered flooring has really come a long way.....the strength of bamboo itself is incredible.....stability is another issue all together....
