I saw a clip on youtube of a guy demonstrating his assorted calls. He did a Kee Kee Run that was awesome! It was a glass call instead of slate. Anyone able to do it on slate? I've got a Primos "Ol' Betsy" and I can't get the pitch high enough. Is it the difference between glass and slate? I've dressed the surface with some 220 grit and it sounds better now than it did but no kee kee.

I think the striker can make a big difference. I can do it on a slate but only if I use a graphite striker. I saw a guy in a calling contest do the best kee kees I've ever heard on a slate and the striker he was using was at least 15-18 inches long. Try messing around with different strikers, it may help.

The most frightening thing you are likely to encounter in nature is yourself.

Glass is usually always higher pitched than slate. Try a harder wood striker & choke down on it. That'll raise the pitch some.

I've never been able to get a "good" kee kee run on a pot type call.....just can't make it happen to my liking.Love using a tube call or a diaphram(which I really don't too much even like to use,I'd rather use a wooden call.....or bone),just seems to be more "right feeling"........to me.

I'm like BMN and LAR43 it's in the striker,I made one out of a laminate called "rockwood" its the same size as a regular striker but one pc.and high pitched when struck on the outer part of the glass.

Okay, I just went and did some experimenting. I made a graphite striker from an old broken fishing rod (we all have some of those don't we?). I can get a pretty convincing kee-kee on my Yella Hammer pot call with it. I just get squeaks and squalks if I try to kee-kee with a wooden striker. I'd say graphite on a slate call should work. Couldn't get it to come out right on my glass call, but then nothing much does...  :banghead:

I can't do it, had it demonstrated to me and still couldn't do it. I think the Roberts Brothers tape shows how to do it and they use the glass side (their call has glass on one side and slate on the other)

I get the best kee-kee with a Knight and Hale #113 diaphram call, but the graphite striker on slate is intriguing.
