I was checking out the Michigan DNR sight for bears and came across their hog info.  Can anyone back this info up with experience on huntable populations?  Do they freaking hibernate in 10 foot of snow or what?
   Been thinking more and more about the U.P. lately, (a guy at work got me interested in camping in the Porkies - mountains of course).
So anybody here ever seen the hogs up there?  If so maybe we should get a group of us northerners together for a pig hunt.  No country miusic aloud though.  Not enough sun for a redneck up there!   :bigsmyl:    Kidding guys.

I have looked into this as well.  Everybody I have talked to said that they have not heard of anybody seeing any yet.  I would love to go out and find some wild pigs.  Michigan DNR has opened said anybody with a valid hunting license is free to shoot them if they see them.  They are trying to eliminate them before they become to big of a problem.  They dont want wild hogs in Michigan.  I am sure it is only a matter of time before they become more wide spread around this state.

There are a couple counties in the lower that have had hogs taken. I know one of them was Saginaw county and I am not sure of the other one. Roblifts was talking to a DNR field officer about this just a couple weeks ago.  He is supposed to get with Rob and let him know of the areas highly traveled so we can go do some game managment  :D .

Hey Jeff, if you and Rob hear something let me know.  I wouldnt mind going and doing a little "game managment".

Jeff,, I heard  one was shot on the flat river state game area last season. Check with hilltop sports to confirm cause thats where the story has started from.. I guess thay have a picture of it. I hunted there all last season and didn't see any sign but covering that entire area in one season is just about impossible. Jeff,, They just might be down the road from ya ,,,LOL,,,

Bowdude I have actually seen pictures of feral hogs as far north as Canada. If I remember right there is a few pretty big herds(??) of them..Im not an expert by any means but I do know when the snow comes around they make nests like birds..It is kinda interesting because they can get to looking even like russian boars with all the hair etc..

I saw 3 big ones in a bar just outside of Iron Mountain a couple of years ago!

Some of these supposedly came from escapees from a game farm in Marquette County.  I have not see any while hunting up there, but i have seen some pictures taken by some locals in the Baraga area.
