just got some new wood shafts in the mail. can I bareshaft tune them before I dip them in Super coat, or should I wait until I finish sealing? I usually apply 3 or 4 coats. thank you

I don't think it would make much difference, but I'd still want to tune them the way I'm going to shoot them.

You can add spine with some coatings, I can add up to 5# using Minwax wood hardener.

I did some with thick GL and wild turkey feathers and gained 5# spine. I was told by many on the Gang that this was impossible but I have been making arrows for the last 25 years and my Adams spine tester doesn't lie. When I match raw shafts, I really match them so I know when there has been a change.

I don't know about my sealer adding spine but storing shafting or arrows for a year in my area adds 5 pounds-they get drier.
