New Owl Bow

Got this on wednesday.  I had LASIK on Thursday so wasn't able to take pictures and post.  I've only shot it a few dozen times, but it shoots fast and flat.  It's 57@27.  (surprising, given my most frequently shot bow just prior to this is a black swan impala recurve).  No hand shock and as quiet as can be.  I'm in the process of making some self nocked cedars for it.

BTW, Ed Scott's a fantastic guy.  Great on the phone, friendly, knowledgable.  One thing he does is week long bow making classes.  I turn 40 next year and am very strongly considering making a week in New Mexico learning about bow building my birthday request.

I enjoyed having a booth next to Ed Scott at the Boise TradExpo earlier this year. Sar, if you think he is great on the phone, you have a pleasant experience coming your way if you go to his school. Fine man. One of the formost experts on American Indian bows, he is published. That bow of yours is much like a backed juniper that I shot in Boise that was just insane! Fast, smooth, hit hard. You done good picking a great bowyer and a great product. Much success with it.

Hap, As Brent said, the belly art is directly on the wood. The back of SAR's is painted onto rawhide.

There's also artwork of a buffalo on the belly of the grip.  The picture is actually under the rawhide so it won't wear off.

Honestly, as beautiful as this bow is, my biggest surprise is how it shoots.  Mr. Scott told me these were high perfomance bows that have been chrono'd in the 180s and 190s.  My other bows are a black swan impala and a bob lee micarta classic.  I've very recently shot a border black douglas with hexIV limbs and a centaur in the 60# range.  Despite what I heard, I was prepared to embrace a more "primitive" experience, especially with the black swan being my main bow.  This is simply not the case.  At 18 yards, this bow shoots fast and flat.  It's not as fast as the swan, but I'd guess it's as fast as my bob lee.  Of course, the actual number doesn't mean much.  The two things that really matter to me are that 1) it's plenty fast enough that I don't have to learn a very arc'd trajectory at my common ranges(I really don't shoot a slow bow very well) 2) it shoots VERY smoothly, draws easily and has no handshock.

Hopefully this week i'll get out to the range and see what it's like at 30 and 40 yards.

In May, I'll be shooting a 3D or two with it.  One of the courses require you to shoot through a chronograph(to keep the compound shooters under 280).  I'll be curious to see what kind of speed it musters.  When done, my arrows should be 570-600 grains

Ed takes a lot of time and pride in his bows.  I was surprised how little such a short bow stacks!  of course I can shoot many of his bows as I only draw 24 inches!  I do love his bows

they are awesome bows alright. have fun with it. i saw a n artical on his bows in one of the mags i got and they do look awesome. but it  dont say how much they are. i sure would like one of those.
