I use 3 5.5" shield cut fletchings. Sure makes and arrow stable.

I use both 5" parabolics or 5.5" High Back shields. Like them both but I prefer the 5.5" when shooting 160 gr Snuffers. I want quick stability and all my arrows have a full helical wrap.

3 5", shield and banana cut. used 5.5" traditional cuts but found the 5.5" a bit too long.

I Use (3) 5 1/4" turkey feathers cut Indian style.

"instinctive archery" is more like playing the violin. Without practice you may remember the mechanics, but you will not be a virtuoso.

Depends entirely on my mood when I'm making the arrows.

My current 'standard' is 3 x 4.5in (shield), but I also quite like 4 x 4.5in (at 90deg)

That length gives me 'enough' fletching and lets me get 2 out of a full length feather.

With selfnocks I like to use a 3x 5.5in or 6in long triangle (traditional english cut), but sometimes I'll go with 4 x 4.5in

There's no magic to it. Just mood.

I use 5" feathers, 12-4-8 o'clock with 12 as cock vane.

I love my P&Y cut feathers, but for hunting, I prefer 3-5" parabolic mainly because I feel they are the quietest type of fletch shape.

DarkeGreen

I just switched. I started my traditional arrows with 3-5.5" feathers and then went down to 3-5". I ran out and could only find 4" feathers so I thought, what the heck and bought them. I was really surprised at how much better the 3 4" fletched arrows flew. I'll stick to that until something better come along.  :)

I shot a lot of combinations over the last 25 years and did not have a preference. When I tried the 4 fletch method with 4" feathers recommended by the Arrows by Kelly (Foxfire) website. The improvement in arrow fliqht and forgivingness was tremendous. So that is all I shoot now.  I use both shield and parabolic fletch.
