I have a 40# @ 28" recurve (also my DL) and am currently shooting 1816s at 29 1/4" BOP w/125 gr. field points. They bareshaft perfectly. However, I'm getting tired of bending/restraightening them and want to shoot a carbon. I bought a couple Beman Venture 500 shafts for testing, fletched one and shot the other bareshaft...they show too stiff (I don't want to go heavier with tip to soften them up). My question is this: Has anyone tried those Carbon Express Thunderstorm (kid's arrow) which I see are rated as 30#-50#? Has anyone checked their spine vs. a 500 spined shaft? Do you have any other recommendations?

JRY309

There are Carbon Tech shafts available at Lancaster's archery the Whitetail model that come in 25/45.Or also I believe 3 Rivers has Easton Excel 600 both of these have a weaker spine then the Beman 500's.

JRY is correct, but ya may need even weaker, remember they are measuring deflection 14" on center not 13"s like Trad guys do. I would think ya would want to add weight to the carbons as they will be light. Y acould shoot a Blackhawk Vapor or carbonwood 2000 cut to 29.5"s with 175 up front and I bet it would fly well. Shawn

goldtip entrada 600 ultralight @ 29in w/ a 125gr. tip is the carbon that works for me.

i have almost the same set-up as yours.

I'd probably try adding two, twenty gr weights to the front. How heavy total weight would that bring you?

What is your bow weight, gordie?
