I may have an opportunity to move there for a new job. Hows the hunting, housing and the general lay of the land?

Blue Buck

I'm 50 miles down the road in Omaha.  There's a fair number of trads around here.  Lincoln has a great private archery range.  Check out  www.prairiebowmen.com.   Also has a new public range but I haven't been there.  Decent deer hunting but it is all private and you may have to knock on a lot of doors to get permission.  Great time to buy a house as it is overbuilt right now.

Blue Buck

Oops.  It's  www.prairiebowmen.org.

Regarding land.  It's all farmground.  You'll need to get on a creek or river with trees to find the deer.  The western part of the state is very different and beautiful and has mule deer.

Thanks for the info blue buck. That is just what I was looking for.

Otter

I live in Seward and work in Lincoln.  I agree about the hunting around here.  I typically use public ground for off season small game and stumpin.  Most farmers have been hit up pretty hard for hunting big stuff.

For turkey and mulies I head further west where there are rolling pasture hills.

We'd be happy to have ya.

I live south west of Seward and like Otter said it can be tough to get on private ground unless your related or know someone. Very good population of whiteails and you can find turkey's in about any direction. West is good for Mulies but from what I've seen the pop. is declining being pushed out but whitetails and farming. West is also good for pronghorn and you have a very small chance at Big Horn Sheep and Elk, a few tags issued every year.

Muzzyhole

I live about 20 miles south of Lincoln.  There are several public hunting areas (although they aren't very big) that a guy can play on and they seem to hold plenty of game.  I have a question for you guys that have hunted Mulies in Nebraska.  Where would you recommend a guy start scouting for a possible 2008 hunt?  I have seen several Mulies in the Chadron area but I would like to find some closer to home.  Any suggestions??   :archer:

Howdy all,
I'm from Kenesaw, south central Nebr.  Don't have too many mulies here, used to 30 years ago, but most of the pastures have been torn up and turned into corn fields.  Have had mulies come by while whitetail huntin around Harlen co. lake.  There are quite a few waterfowl areas around here, most if not all have a good population of deer.  Not many trees mite have to hunt em off the ground.  If you get by the rivers or creeks there is a good population of turkeys.  Most of the flatlands with just row crops do not hold many turkeys.  Take care all, am gonna be gone for a few days but will be back on next week.  Swabby.
