Small Game Heads

I'm planning on hunting rabbits this fall and was wondering about heads. I've read lots about them and I'm sure they've been talked about on here before, but I thought I would repost the question again. I'm kinda leery about judo's and blunts. the judos b/c they seem to make a lot of noise while flying and neither have cutting surfaces. Without any cutting surfaces, is the impact alone enough to make a humane kill and quick retrevial. I was looking at the G5 small game head. I've only ever seen them in Cabela's. They're kinda like a judo w/ cutting edges. Has anyone out there every used these? They're kinda pricey so I want to research some before purchasing. I can't wait to broaden my traditional experience w/ small game.

Never had judos whistle, and they'll take care of a rabbit.  Been using ace hex blunts and hit some squirrels with them and they do a great job.

G5 SGH work real well on rabbits. I have been using them for the last year with good results.

It's hard to beat Judo points, I have never heard of them making noise other than thud  :D  
Another good small game head is the Game Grabber, they hit with some authority!

I've never had a problem with judos whistling, but I don't use them much anymore.

No cutting surfaces on the blunts hasn't been a problem for me.  Any rabbit I've hit solidly has had the blunts go right through them.  That includes hex heads, spent shell casings and regular blunts.  
Come to think of it, the only rabbit I hit good and didn't get penetration was with a judo  - I've taken two with a judo: the first was a gut shot with a head shot followup, the second one passed right through the rib cage.

I know the blunts worked well for me with bunnies. Judos work well too from what I have seen. Another factor to consider is losing arrows....judos help with that a little....they alos hinder shooting through tiny holes to make a connection.
I like the looks of the barta blunt, but have never used them personally. The magnus blunt seems like it may be more to your liking.

I find that Judos and the SGH hang up pretty easily on brush and limbs which make them hard to use in thick cover, but you loose less arrows with them. The G5 heads are pretty expensive (almost $10 a piece here) they look like they would do a nasty job on a rabbit though (the only thing I've shot with mine are stumps lol).

I know lots of people who hunt snowshoes with steel blunts, they do a good job on them, don't know about larger Jack Rabbits though. The magnus blunts with the bleeder blade look interesting but I don't know anyone who has used them.

Good point about the hanging up on brush. I had never considered that. If blunts will penetrate and get the job done then that sounds like a good option. Thanks for the info guys. Anymore is welcome.

How about just using an adder head along with a field point?

This is a 75grain field point with a small wingnut. It comes out to 125grains on the nose. I sharpened the wingnut with a file and it has a pretty good edge. It shoots right with my FP's and should work very well for rabbits. A LOT cheaper than a G5 SGH too.

blunts have always worked well for me on squirrels and such, i make my own by glueing a 9mm or .38 specail shell casing on the end of and old arrow. they work great for squirrels and dont get stuck hish up in a tree. for bunny's i like to use a small 3 blade broad head with a washer behind it to keep them slipping into the ground to far. every head has its purpose just fins whats right for you

on wooden arrows I like .357 magnum cases weighted with solder melted into them to get what ever weight I want. .38 special and 9mm also work for 11/32 shafts but I like tha longer magnum case and I always seem to have a pile of brass that is no longer suitable for reloading.
For those that shoot 5/16 shafts .30 carbine brass fits nicely on that size and would make great blunts for kids shafts. Of course they can also be weighted.
If anyone local needs some I've got plent of .357 magnum cases to give away.

I like the adder point. If you put it on backwards it'll "flare" and pretty much stop.

I think we have the best luck with the game nabbers.  They are made by my good friend and nephew, so I may be prejudiced.
