Advice on Hawaii Hunting...

There may be a trip to HA in my near future and I want to start gathering info! I am clueless so far, other than I know they hunt pigs and goats...and fallow...

Public Land?
Guide Recquired?
Meat Care?
Etc.....???

In the past there have been some good articles on hunting Hawaii in TBM.

I have a trip planned to Hawaii in the near future too....Leave tomorrow but I didn't make plans to do any hunting. Darn it!

Just got back from Kauai and all I can say is that the Napoli coast about kicked my but . License on Kauai cost about $120 with the archery stamp . You have to check your areas as most of the seasons are open on Sat and Sun and state holidays , not during the week . The Napoli coast is open every day but you have to get a hiking? permit to get on there . It was probably the most rugged terrain I have ever hunted , lots of goats but most shots didn't offer a chance for recovering them . 3 of us went and I was the only one with a recurve ,my buddy shot a goat and it took longer to get him back up to the trail then it did to kill him . We marinated the meat about 8 hrs. and slow cooked on the grill and it was like chewing on a rope . Northern Kauai gets about 450+ inches of rain a year ( the most rainfall anywhere on earth ) and after a week there I think they underestimate it .Not at all what I expected but was well worth the trip and I would do it again .Great scenery , you can watch whales from the cliffs and the vegataion is incredible . I kept looking over my shoulder expecting to see a Jap patrol or Tarzan  any minute . Get yourself in shape as the trails are steep , rocky and most of the time slick with mud . My expierence , Fred

Ernie, what island are you traveling to? Each island is a little different in terms of what you can hunt and when.  Sorry but we don't have any fallow, only axis and blacktail. Maybe I can help you out. Jerry is an awesome guy to contact too!

Check the archives here and make a special note of the fact that you have to get a hunter education letter of exemption.

I have done three trips, three to Kona and 1 to Molokai.

A call to Walter naki on Molokai is probablythe best-easy was to do things.

Note that not all game exists on each island.  The most variety is on the Big Island.

Don Thomas has done some articles on hunting Molokai I believe.  Looks like a fun hunt.  Tried to talk my sweetheart into honeymooning there, 3 days of hunting feral pigs and goats for me, 7 or 8 days on the beach for her.  It went over like a lead balloon

Just called Walter last night.  We are going to be on Moloka'i from June 6 through 16th.  Can't wait!  This will be my second trip over, and my son Chase will be hunting with us this time.

On the Big Island I have hunted goats, pigs, feral sheep, mouflon sheep.  Actually when I was on Molokai, Walter took me snorkeling/spearfishing.  He is a multi-year state freediving spearfishing champion so that would be an excellent bet for a combo trip.

Hmmm... just got it this evening after nearly three weeks on Ohau and Kauai. Nearly two days of travel getting home too, I'm beat but will try and get something up in the next couple days.
