Anybody try the feather dye from Great Northern Bowhunting?  The colors look very good in the picture on their website, but I'd like to hear back from someone who has actually used it.  Thanks,

Stan

I was wondering the same thing myself.  Curious if the colors are THAT much more spectacular than the stock red, orange and green barred feathers that are out there.

I have used it and am very happy with the colors except their green. Their green seems more like turquois to me. The yellow is a floresent yellow. I hope this helps.

Stuff works really well in my opinion. I didnt have any trouble with any of the colors I have tried (blue, yellow, and green).

I dont know that the colors are better or worse than what is commercially available. The attraction, to me, is the do-it-yourself aspect of dyeing my own. That and the cost savings if you can get feathers cheap or free from friendly turkey hunters. I imagine snow goose feathers would be great if you could get em.

The price of artificial barred, and solid colors too, is getting out of hand. Just the cost of playing I guess, but it is still expensive.

Thanks for the quick replies.  This place is great!

I've only used yellow, and only on natural wild turkey feathers, but I was well pleased with the results. The other thing is you can save the dye over time and reuse it. I stored mine in a couple of empty magnum wine bottles and it held up great.

I used their chartruesse(sp) on wild turkey feathers....came out nice, but a touch greener than I wanted. Lost two of the arrows under the snow for about amonth and a half.....cant tell it by the feathers. I have the rest of it stored for future use.

I ordered some and then came time I couldn't find it, lost it. Did a search here for instructions and used over the counter Rite dye worked great. No complaints other than I hate loosing stuff!

Stan-
I used Kool Aid to dye some wild turkey feathers and the colors are great.  There are lots of colors and it is very in-expensive. Set with vinegar when you are done and they look great.  I put some outside in the rain for a week and there was no color bleading.

I was going to try some rit from grocery store but that looks easier. How strong do you mix it and then do you put in vinegar buy itself or put the vinegar in the kool aid to make it set ?

Cody Cantrell

Bryan how about steps for kool-aid dying?  I just died some with rit yesterday and they turned out great.  Never used the Great Northern dyes though.

Could not resist one in my kids red easter egg dye. Looks more like pink. Have to try that kool aid.
