Grohmann Knives

Any opinions on the different grohmann knife options?

Different styles?  Steel choices?  Which grind?

Any opinions or suggestions would be helpful.

i have had afew of the Grohmann Knives in the past. It is my experience that the flat grind is a bit easier to sharpen but I prefer the hollow grind for durability. I've had most of the DH Russell, Grohmanns but I think my all time fav's were the #4 and #1. Great Blades. Very functional.

I've got the trout/bird model. Figgered it would be a handy size for deer, even with my large hands. Didn't get a deer. But I whacked a cottontail recently. Worked just dandy boning out the backstraps, and lotsa "backbone" to chop the legs off too. Good steel, nice rosewood handle slabs, beefy leather sheath. Grohmann has been supplying the Canadian Navy since the 60's.
The regular grind should be fine. I think they recommend the flat grind more for camp use. Depending what you want to use the knife for, the #1 or #2 will be great for deer-size critters and under. I bought the #1 in a folder for a buddy who hosted me deer hunting several times. It's sturdy, great quality. I've seen a coupla their larger models. They look beautiful, but to me they are like cleavers. Maybe some have a use for that.

I have been using the Canadian Military  Knives for many years. They are excelent in every way.
These are my #1 knife for field dressing.

Currently, I am using a small knife in my hunting pack to field dress and skin.  I then use a boning knife to take care of the butchering.

Looks like the #1 will take care of it all, they look nice too.

Could well be the best all around shape and size for the perfect hunting knife...IMO...Grohmanns are an excellent knife.

A little more costly, but well worth it is the Knives Of Alaska belt knife...similar shape/design but in D2 and with a more stout spine.

Whichever, you'll like em.
