After talking with a  fellow tradganger, I was prompted to make a gut hook helle knife with antler in the handle. Gut hooks do me no good because I never kill anything with my bow.
I made the sheath also.
Special thanks to Mike Storaasli for giving me the perfect antler piece to work with. Even I couldn't screw this one up!
Thanks for lookin' Mike

Crooked Stic

That is a nice one Mike. I been thinking about trying a helle myself.

damn Mike, nice job! My next knife project (when I get the chance) is gonna be a helle blade knife.
I reckon so

Blues Stringer

Very nice!  Where did you get the spacers and hardware?

sticshooter

Well nothing new here. OUTSTANDING as it always is.<><

Beautiful knife. Now why don't you ever kill anything with your bow?

I'm going to show my ignorance here and ask this. What is a helle knife or helle blade?
I see the name on here and assumed it was a company name.      :help:
If it wasn't for Hillary Blackburn I may have never found my way to the woods and the water.I miss you Puppy.Love from your grandson.

Another good one Mike. Elk antler works well for knife handles, it is larger and straighter than deer antler. I will add it to my list for inclusion on my Customer Creation page. I'm way overdue to get that page up to date and have some time coming for that in a few weeks.

Andrew, I have some of your pictures to add when I finally get to that update.

Northern Fisher, I'm your local Helle knife guy. You can see our knives, blades and other stuff at the link below.

I'm working the website now and have some new blades and knives, should be finished in a day or two.
Happy Trails,
Chad

Thanks gang.
Blues stringer, the blade is from darktimberdesigns, the small brass spacers are cut from a piece of a brass sheet from hobby lobby and the thick brass on the ends is from some old lawn sprinkler devices. I cut and shaped them myself. It takes a while but since brass is pretty soft it's not that bad.
Northern Fissher, Chad at darktimberdesigns is the man for the blades. He has a good selection as well as everything else you need to make a nice knife without a tremendous amount of skill or a shop full of tools.
Vermonster, this one's the hardest to answer. Truth is, I'm an antihunter vegatarian.

Really, my excuse is I don't go hunting much at all. I can count the days I spent bowhunting this year on one hand and still make a peace sign with the remaining fingers. Nobody's fault but mine. I get busy building things and before I know it, seasons over. I love being in the field but I'm not a good bowhunter. I can't sit still very long without wondering what's on the other side of the hill. I've spooked many a deer because I like to move too much but I've also been well within bow range several times. There just always seems to be something not quite right for the shot. Ya know? I won't give up though and love reading everyone's stories and seeing their pictures.

Well I'm serious. If you want to come to VT and bloody and arrow, I'd be glad to help you out.

Another classy knife by another classy gentleman!      :notworthy:

You never cease to amaze us Mike!!

Blues Stringer

Thanks Mike.  I've used the Helle blades on a couple of knives, but had never incorporated any metal into the handle.

BTW - went and joined the Palo Duro Bowhunters Club Sunday afternoon.  Walked around with Tom and a couple of others during the 3D shoot talking with them and decided it would be a great place for me to start shooting again.  It's been almost 3 years since I've really shot a bow!

Beautiful knife!  A have a couple of questions if you don't mind. How do you glue the thin brass spacers together with the wood and antler? epoxy? Do you use pins? Also, I always see antler pieces with that nice brown highlight. Is that natural or do you enhance it somehow?

Thanks. I've been admiring your bow and knife work for quite a while.

Blues Stringer- I was at that shoot. Had a great time because there wasn't much waiting in line. Did you see the group of stickbow shooters? I wish you woulda come and said hi! Maybe next time you'll come join us. Always room for more fun. Hope to meet you.
Beachbowhunter-I've used both devcon 2 ton epoxy and thick super glue with good results. I rough up the brass and wood real good first. You have to be careful when shaping the handle because the brass gets hot while sanding  and will make the adhesive  let go if it gets too hot. That antler already had the nice brown color. The white on the ends is from me sanding it.
Thanks again gang for the kind words. Mike
