I'm looking for a book that can guide a beginner. I am new to traditional archery, and would like a book that teaches shooting form. I am not sure if i will shoot instinctivly, or sight down the arrow. Any books out there that cover all shooting styles?
             Thanks, Steve.

Check out Become The Arrow by Byron Ferguson. Also, if you ever have any questions about anything feel free to ask them here. Very many knowledgable people here. Welcome! Justin

Thanks coldsteel0812.
I've heard that is a terrific book. I'll check it out.

There are books that touch on all shooting styles, but my vote would be to read books by those who are passionate about their shooting style.  And then read another book by someone else who is passionate about a different shooting style.  For example, Fred Asbell is passionate about the instinctive shooting style.  His first book was "Instinctive Shooting."  Read that, and then read "Become the Arrow" by Byron Ferguson, and then read "Instinctive Archery Insights," by Jay Kidwell.  You will get slightly different takes on the subject from each author.  Instinctive archery requires a focus that goes beyond that required for our lives in general.  Generally, our lives require our attention to be spread out: as we're driving to work, we have to be aware of the traffic around us while at the same time we're planning our day, thinking about the weekend, worrying about a spat with our wife or children, and thinking about whether we can afford some new toy.  All that has to go out the window if we expect to hit the target with no sights.  So that gives archery a spiritual (psychological if you're not spiritual) dimension.  The archetypical book for that would be "Zen in the Art of Archery" by Eugen Herrigel.

I've bought alot of the shooting books, proably almost all of them, but the best money you could spend in my opinion would be the DVD "Masters of the Barebow". It covers a number of different styles of shooting and you get to see how its done wich is hard to do reading a book.

Fred Asbell has his Instinctive shooting II on DVD now also! Just remember these are guides to shooting a particular way, Not the gospel on shooting these ways!! Everyone is different, there exact style will also be a little different!

I got the most out of Asbell's books, but I really had to concentrate on them. It has really helped my hitting what I shoot at.

T.J. Conrad's book, "Traditional Bowhunter's Handbook" would be an excellent read for the beginner.  The book covers much more than shooting styles and techniques and it's easy to read and understand.

All suggestions so far are good, but for the beginning archer, bowhunter or just shooter, T.J. 's book would certainly be worth the cost.

In my opinion the best out there is the Masters of The Barebow DVD . Shows that there is more than one way to get the job done, not one persons style but several , and you what , they all work well

6 POINT

Fred Asbell's Instinctive Shooting I or II and Jay Kidwell's Instinctive Archery Insights are all you need to read and learn. Fergusons is great for starting fires and too slippery for toilet paper.JMHO

All the info you need is right here on tradgang, why buy a book? My best advice to ya is take a little of each style and use what works well for you, might come up with your own style and hell, you can write a book.

Hey There Steve!...Welcome to the world of Traditional Archery!...All books mentioned above are good...I know you asked for "shooting" information but, some books have hunting "stuff" in their pages also...That's not bad...Is it?

One of the best books out there is "Timeless Bowhunting~the Art, the Science, & the Spirit" by Roy S. Marlow...I can say that this book covers it all...Even wheelie bow stuff...In 74 chapters you don't have to read in order...
