I havent been useing one the whole time that ive owned my recurve I either string my bow by useing my legs as taught in school or I put my bottom limb on my bed I put my knee on the bottom limb and pull up the front limb. Should I get a stringer or is the way im doing it ok?

Yes.  Cheap insurance against bow damage and injury.

Yes.
There never seems to be a bed at the range or in the deer woods.  ;)

Oh yea, get a stringer for your curve! Sounds like you are putting unequal pressure on your top limb when wrestling with it on the side of your bed. A stringer will apply equal pressure on the limbs (like when you shoot it) and this is always much safer for both you and the bow's sake. Stringers are cheap, lightweight, last forever and will save you a lot of grief over time. I use a selway recurve stringer personally and recomend it highly.

2Blade...I had one given to me....there has to be some sort of trick.I would have asked if you didnt because the one I got has very limited directions. Hook us up guys...whats the trick to using a stringer?

Make sure the bow string is secure in the lower limb grooves and slide the stringer sleeve over it. Slide the upper bow string loop up the limb toward the upper tip as tight as it will go. For a Selway type stringer, place the rubber block right up against the upper bow string loop. For stringers that slip on the upper limb tip, make sure the pocket doesn't cover the string groove.  If it does, put a little cotton in the pocket so the limb tip doesn't go in so far.

The "trick" to it is to stand on it with both feet spread out about (or a little more than) shoulder width so there's more leverage pulling down on the limbs.  Slide the string up into the groove as you pull up on the bow.  Make sure the upper loop is secure in the grooves before you let off on the pressure.  Let off on the pressure slowly so you can make sure the loop stays in the groove.  Hope that explains it well enough.

Jamie,

You have to adjust your stance depending on how long your bow is and how long the stringer is.  Play with it a little and you'll find it pretty quick.

Thanks for the tips glad you could help us both out. I still have a lot to buy for traditional archery like a stringer and all that but I can say this isn't half as costly as all the money I spent for the compounds.

crap, ive got one but i cant get it to work on either my longbow or recurve.
when i string my longbow i just pull back on the top limb and pust in with my knee on the handle.
on the recurve i string it like thay do i Deliverance, by putting the TOP limb under my foot and pulling the string into the bottom nocks, just the way this string is on the boe, just too lazy to flip the string around, it works better this way cause ive got a quiver on my 'curve and this way its outta the way...
If its brown its down; thats my motto.
