For anyone who bothers to read the poem that always appears in the final pages of The Bowyer's Journal, the Spring 07 issue contains a poem written by my ten year old step-daughter (11 now). She was inspired by a few hunting outings she took with me this past fall and this framed poem was her Christmas gift to me. The best I've ever received and the first indication that anyone in my family understands why I do what I do! I submitted it to Brian and was delighted that he agreed to run it. As was Allie...she aspires to be a writer one day and with her first published work at 10....who knows! Thanks Brian!!!

An accomplishment to be proud of. Any chance you could e-mail me a copy for my hunter's ed classes?

I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.

Sure..what's your email. I had a couple other requests too. If its ok with Brian, I'll post it here so the nonsubscribers can read.

I was amazed that was written by a ten year old! Like all good writing it said a lot in a simple yet elegant way. Very nice! Very impressive! You have a lot to be proud of!

Steve, you have a right to brag. That was a great

Hi Steve,

For those of us who don't get the Bowyer's Journal, is there any chance you could reprint the poem here?

The Still
By: Alexandra Fascione-Hutchins

In the still,
If you are still,
You may see things.

And then,
You begin to realize:
it is far from still.

In the still,
Leaves descend from the heavens.
Squirrels rummage for enough food
to last the winter ahead.
Birds glide from treetop to treetop, gossiping along the way.
It is anything but still.

Finally he sees it;
Brown with a white tail and spots,
Galloping over bushes,
She is strong.
But he knows he can override her
Strength.

One arrow,

One shot,

One last gallop,

And she is still.

The Whittler

What a great poem. I'd say the little lady has talent. Thanks for sharing. Alan
