scrapers and scales

Will a paint scraper, the ones with a thick blade approx. 1/4" x 2.5" x 1" work for scraping a bow? Where do yall get them big scrapers? how much will they cost? also, what do yall use for a scale to test # of a bow?

I use a paint scraper often on my bows. Make a good sharp edge at about the angle of the original bevel. A two hand pull will peel off a good shaving.

After rasping, I often use the paint scraper to smooth out the rasp marks. Works pretty fast.

I got mine at a garage sale, so don't know what the cost new.

I use a cabinet scraper from the hardware store.
I bought a scale off ****. It's kinda big but it works.

I have been using half a pair of scissors for scraping lately. I sharpen the blade with with an Accusharp scissors sharpener. It puts a perfect edge and hook on the blade.

For a scale use a annalog bathroom scale with a stick marked in inches to the desired draw length. Place the bow string on one end of the stick and the other end on the center of the scale. Pull down on the bow handle until you hit your full draw mark and note the weight.   Pat   Pat

I use a 50# fish scale I bought for $7.00. It doesn't stop at 50, it starts a second revolution.

Don't buy the scrapers from 3rivers. They are of inferior quality. If you buy a cabinet scraper buy one from a good hardware or woodworking store. You can get a good quality swedish steel scraper for under eight bucks. Learn how to sharpen it and it will be your go to tillering tool.
