I received my new Habu Vyperkahn double carbon longbow limbs yesterday. The limbs are 50# @ 31" and I can't wait to shoot them as soon as my right shoulder recovers from the surgery that took place three weeks ago. I believe this is the second set of double carbon limbs Chris Cox has produced using his new process, the performance should be excellent and I'll try to post some numbers in a few weeks. As you'll see he laminated very thin wood veneers over the double carbon which I like since the beauty of the wood is one thing I really love about traditional bows. He said his testing using this process vs. putting the carbon laminations on the outside, which most bowyers are doing, he only lost 1 FPS. The wood laminations are very thin and are covered with an extremely thin layer of glass or finish (I can't tell which nor remember what Chris told me). Here are some pictures.

Here are some more pictures that show off the wood. The limbs on the left are the original Hycurve limbs that came with the bow a year ago while the limbs on the right are the new double carbon longbow limbs.

Here's a profile picture showing the difference between the two limb styles. Left side = longbow; right side = hycurve.

Now the long wait while I rehab the shoulder!

scott- i have been doing the same thing with very thin glass and veneers over carbon for a few years now...... i have only lost 1-2fps over my all carbon version as well. here is why doing it this way creates such a fast bow.

both of those bows are 58#@28". the top is done as mentioned and the bottom has only glass. you can see how much physical core weight is removed and why the speed increases so much.

that is one pretty bow you have there and guaranteed its a performer!!!!

I think that's the best design out there. Nice bow. I'll keep it warmed up for ya.
The hunt is the trophy!

Hornseeker

That is beautiful! Wow.

How is the performance on that hycurve...is basically an Extra Hybrid right? Does the string rest long on the tips when its strung??

Sweet.

My shoulder is feeling better and I expect to be able to shoot faster than the bow could be mailed, shot and sent back!

Hornseeker,

The Vyperkahn w/hycurve shoots about 195 FPS in my hands at 9 grains/pound. I get this speed with the bow set up for hunting with a quiver attached, string silencers, nock set and so on. Chris expects the double carbon longbow limbs to be 6+ FPS faster, extremely smooth to draw and very quite. I know he's extremely proud of the new design and I'll know how it shoots for me soon!

The string touches about two inches of the hycurve's limb tips when strung.

His prices are high but I don't think he's getting rich...

Scott,

That is a killer piece of art!!! Your a lucky guy. And congrats on your shoulder healing up ahead of schedule.

BWT, that weight would be perfect for me. We should swap bows for a month. I got plenty for you to choose from.   :bigsmyl:
