Another thought

The just a thought thread got me thinking about all the correct ways to draw/shoot comments. This is key guys. I always say when judging dogs at trials you'll learn so much more than actually being a spectator. Get involved.
Ok so what's that gotta do w archery. It involves certifying. Fellas when you certify, and get with an existing program w good instructors you'll learn more about teaching others and your own shooting, and preventing injury than you ever thought possible. So you say you only teach your kids, grandkids, neighbors. Don't they deserve your best? Consider it guys you'll be amazed at what you thought you understood.

Good point, Michael.  I've been teaching archery for about 20 years, mostly on a level 1 certification, because I didn't need any higher certification to do the kind of introductory level teaching I do for my club.  However, I'm retired now, and have more time, so I decided to go for the level 2 certification.  It was enjoyable, and I learned some new things, so now I'm thinking about going for level 3.  The most important thing about any archery instruction is safety, because in a class of kids, unexpected things will happen.  However, beyond that, and more important for us "mature" shooters, is our own safety from the injuries we inflict on ourselves from shooting the bow incorrectly.

I've certified over 5,000 adults. Those adults have certified more than 100,000 adults.  Teaching is also great for the teacher.

I've observed over the past 20 years, rough figures for retaining a message/lesson:

- Hear a lesson - 25% retention
- Observe the lesson - 50% retention
- Do the lesson - 75% retention
- Teach someone the lesson - 100% retention
