What's your favorite paint for cresting?

Tell me what your favorite paint for cresting is and why?

I prefer the paints and sealers from True North Arrows. Both their cresting and crown dip paints. They are easy to work with and clean up. They are durable. Best of all, Joe(owner) will talk to you if you are having any issues. I attached some photos of my most recent arrow build. I used True North crown dip, cresting paint, and their water based sealer for them.

I switched to True North Paints a few years ago, and have been very happy. Before that I used Bohning paints with very good results, have been happy with both. Made the switch because it was easier for me to get the True North, being from Michigan I can usually stop at Joe's booth at one of the many shoots or shows he attends and pick up what I need and save some money on shipping. Like James said, Joe is very helpful with any questions or concerns, and always happy to help you out.

I made the switch to True North a couple years ago as well. Very nice to work with.

I just use the paints from Walmart craft department. Easy to use and clean up and very inexpensive.

I've had good luck with Testor's model paints (enamel). Afterwards I seal them with Varathane semi gloss sealer. Works for me and a lot less money.

FletchTite Platinum.
I've heard it's not as good as the original FletchTite, but I haven't lost a feather yet. The key is (IMHO) every time you are ordering supplies to build arrows, start with a fresh tube whether or not you have any left. It also helps to (lightly) scuff the area with ScotchBrite before gluing up the feathers. I've also used the tape with satisfactory results as well.

Edit: I also put a small dab of Super Glue gel where the quill meets the shaft once they've dried.

Duco Cement. It works well with wood shafts. I don't do any prep. Just glue them on. No issues what so ever with feathers coming loose.

Right now my go to cresting paints are Tamiya acrylic model paints. They don't thicken up like Bohning paints. They flow out better for me than water based paints, our humidity is practically zero. When it's warm the stuff dries on the brush before I can do a dozen. But that's my experience yours may vary. I also use some of the Testors enamels. Easy to find and a bigger variety of colors.

I like cresting my arrows. Even my woods which have a short life get some cresting.
