I am looking to switch from a recurve to a longbow. I have been told a hybrid would make the transition smoother. So what is your opinion? Thanks.

Marblesonac

The grip of many hybrids is closer to a recurve (higher wrist) and would therefore make that part of the transition easier.

Hybrids are generally shorter, faster and have less hand shock than classic "D" shaped longbows as well.

As always there are exceptions.

So I would agree in general that the statement would be true.

On the other hand if you shot ANY bow exclusively for a few weeks you would get good with it IMO.

Van or marble - don't mean to hijack this thread but when a guy switches to longbow, what is he really changing ?

I seem to have a problem with consistancy with longbows while other guys are completely opposite.

If you were handing a longbow to a long-time recurve shooter what would be the first thing you'd tell him to do different (if anything)...given the change in wrist position ?

Hope you don't mind the tangent George ...  ;)
