I have some of these kicking around,  mostly as decoration in the shop and in the cave.  I recall mounting one at some point and though I didn't spend much time on it,  I don't remember it flying too well.  That was the end of it so far anyway,  but I was eyeballing some of them old arrows hanging in the shop and wanted to reach out and see if anyone had some good pics they'd be willing to share of game animals taken with these big ole broadheads .......... :bigsmyl: ?

You're not referring to Grateful Dead fans, are you?

  Heck no!  I'm talking about them heads about as wide as a spade shovel that look they'd be capable of cutting an average sized deer clean in half.
That's a bit of an exaggeration I suppose,  but maybe not too far off! :biglaugh:

Russell Southerland

Most of the guys that killed with those heads aren't around anymore.  They sure had a big following for sure.

Terry Green

I have one somewhere, if I run across it I'll try and take it hunting....

I hunted with them , as well as the Bear Razorheads, for decades. They weren't as wide as you might think, the biggest was about 1 1/2". But they were vented, and flew quite well, and as Doug Mercaida would say, "they will Kill!".
Any man who lives within his means clearly lacks imagination

LookMomNoSights

Terry,  that would be awesome!

Wow!!!! And look at those prices!  Man,  times have changed haven't they .........

Bisch

Bisch,  I couldn't help but notice over the many years now the countless critters to your credit.......one with a dead head might be a possibility in the future ? :bigsmyl:
If there aren't many pictures out there, maybe some moments can be made ........  maybe I work on this myself.  Local, I have coyotes all year and turkey coming in the spring but that's it til deer, unless I travel south which most likely isn't happening this year for hunting anyhow.

I shot my first "big game " animal with a Dead Head in 1967. Was a fat ground hog on the run. Arrow went through him like he was butter, and he rolled over, dead. 45# Indian recurve.

Didn't even own a camera then, so no picture.

Terry Green

Eric, there are tons of pics out there, but not likely for many to show up here.  Wish me luck on finding mine.

I'll look but I haven't shot anything with since the 80's. One buck I remember well, it was a spike I took on Halloween morning in a swamp in central Wisconsin. I'd put hip boots on went out about 1/2 mile to a large forked tree where I sat. This spike came along at about 15 yards and when I drew my 70" 70# longbow the bottom limb hit the tree and caused my arrow go low and left. It hit the deer in the neck with a SMACK and down it went down. After gutting the deer I started dragging and the deer's neck stretched  about 6", turns out the deadhead had completely severed the neck bones!

Lori

Charlie Bledsoe of the Sioux Falls Bear Archery shop was once asked when we there, "Charlie, don't those Deadheads whistle in flight?" He said, "You bet they whistle, they whistle straight through 'em."  We used the smaller and the larger sizes, no digital pictures that i know of. We quit using them because they do not always track straight on contact.

foxbo

Robin and Sue Buck out of Kent, WA offers a copy called a Buck Dreaded Head. 2.52" long and 1.36 wide. Looks just like the Deadhead. I bought a half dozen a few years back, but never shot anything with them. The ones I had didn't whistle.

Not sure if the pic will come thru. Have not tried to post a pic over here in a long time.

Well, the other one worked. :) I believe the head with the adaptor is the real Deadhead, the other the Dread Head.

When I joined Bearstate Bowhunters in late 70's that was first question I was asked. "You have any Deadheads you want to sell or trade for". Being the "newbie " and wanting to make an impression I traded the ones I had for Black Diamonds.

LookMomNoSights

Man I'm gonna have to set up a few arrows with the ones I have and bring them into the woods next chance I get.   Don't know why I haven't yet to be honest  :campfire.

Wudstix

There are many heads that preformed well, but were marketed poorly.  Also, may have been a glut of good heads and some were sold better.  I  still shoot Snuffer, ACE, Magnus and Ribtek.  Couple newer ones Grizzly Instinct and VPA.  But they're not $3!!!
