Is 8125 All That??

I'm not looking to start any arguments here but if friendly debate ensues, I guess it's no harm.

The reason I ask the question below is that I make some bows and also the strings for those bows.  I have used B50 and B55 almost exclusively so far.  I'm going to add a low stretch material to the material inventory and 8125 seems like a good choice but still am open to suggestions.

BCY says that 8125 is the choice of most Olympic archers.  Given that many of those archers live with their bows and therefore strings,  is that claim a well qualified endorsement of 8125?

I'm surprised no one replied yet. My opinion is that the speed gains are over rated. However the low stretch strings for me have outlasted polyester by a significant length of time. I use BCY X and the longevity makes it for me.

"MY" favorite stringmaker uses Mercury,  no problems for me using them.

Interesting responses.   That high end stuff is pricey but I need to add a high performance material to the repertoire.

D97 and 8125 are both good string materials. If your not looking to squeeze out all the speed you can then save some $ and go with them instead of the newer more costly material.

I have settled on bcy-x and have a supply to last since it has been replaced by x-99. The added vectran improves stability in our summer heat.

I strarted having my strings made from it because Border recommends it or FFplus.  Only difference is that one has thicker strands than the other.  It has a bit more stretch than 452 so less strain on the limbs of their Hex limbs.
Might be cheaper but I don't go through a lot of strings.

I went to the BCY website several months ago. If you read up on the material they offer you'll find that they do not recommend some of the strings mentioned above for recurves.
As you said in your original post 8125 is the go to as far as they are concerned. D97 is basically the same as 8125 just a little thicker. I believe the other BCY string that they said people like because of the feel was the 652 spectra.

D97 is the same base material (SK75 Dyneema)  the difference between the 2 is 8125 is made thinner for pin nocks and ect.   if gonna be shooting a regular arrow d97 is fine.   in my experience its a heck of alot better feeling than any dacron string.   you will have to slightly retune your brace.  my favorite is bcy X    its an even newer material not faster than d97 (maybe a tiny bit) but gains a ton of stability and once it stretches in you pretty much never had to touch the BH  even during temperature differences.

I use 8125 on my FF compatible bows , it's the quietest FF I have found for my bows I make them reasonably skinny and have never had any issues. I also pad the loops with B50.
