Is spectraply strong enough to build a TD riser without glueing anything else for support?

Longcruise

Not a precise answer here, but I have made one ASL with a Spectraply riser and while I'm perfectly happy with it, I was surprised at how easily it worked.   That may or may not reflect on it's strength.

Maybe Kenny will chime in.  He stocks it.

I've built TDs up to 50# with it, never a prob, but not sure I'd go more weight than that without some sort of a decent I beam in it.  It is made of birch(yellow I believe) if you want to research the wood.

It is pretty lightweight but being laminated it is fairly strong.

I like to err on the side of caution...

Stay sharp, Kenny.

This one is 50# with a 19 " riser.

Kenny, does it soak up your clear finish? If so, the birch is not stabilized. :bigsmyl:

I cut to center, and nope, not stabilized. Just dyed birch ,then glued together.

Crooked Stic

I agree with Kenny in aTD over 50 lb. I beam it. It is not stabilized. It will soak a lot of juice but the curing heat delams it. Maybe if you clamp it would be okay.

Looks great!  How does the rest of it look?  The riser feel solid so far?

TX FLY CASTER

Pretty good so far , no noticeable flex in the riser.

Kenny , not sure which color it was. Are you currently selling material?

kennym

Yes, but I don't have that color exactly.
