I had the opportunity to get my hands on a bow that I've been craving for a while. I traded for a Robertson Vision Falcon, bow came with 2 sets of limbs. Now in the past I was big on trading or buying used bows that were in diamond shape, but this time, all I wanted to have is a Robertson. Yes the bow arrived and it is in good used shape but I like it, I like that it looks that it has been used to hunt, to travel through the woods faithfully ready to complete the task at hand. It feels right, it feels experienced, it has a soul for the hunt. As soon as this crappy weather clears here, I can't wait to hear her sing.

Never really thought about it that way, but you may have changed my thinking.  I always rushed to get a bow refinished or buy a like new one.

Hopefully it shoots for you as well as how you feel about the bow. Me, myself, and I are in between having feeling like yours for a bow or considering it just a "tool" to get a job done. Maybe I couldn't handle a let down?

All my bows get names based on something that happens with them.  Big River recurve "Wisconsin Whisper" it's very quiet, MOAB "Augenblik" blink of the eye in German cause it's fast, Big River LB "Hallelujah" first words out of my mouth when I shot it.

I've owned a bunch of bows over the years and have traded or sold most of the them. The only bows that I've had that were special to me are the self bows. If any bow has a soul it would be one of them. To take a piece of wood and carve out a bow takes a lot of time and knowledge. People talk about coustom bows but self bows are truly coustom. Everyone of them are one of a kind.

The beauty of self bows are they aren't perfect, it's the imperfections that make them special. Every knot and twist has to be worked around to get a finished bow.

If I buy a purty new bow it will look used before too long.  I hunt with my bows.  Shoot most days in the yard.
They travel in the back seat of the truck. Get leaned against the fence and lain down on the patio table. That's why it's hard for me to turn loose the money on a beautiful custom like I did that Primal Tech from Randy.  But it shoots so nice for me and has killed several animals so it has earned it's runs and scratches.
I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.

My bow philosophy is the same as my classic car philosophy. Take care of them, keep them in good working order, but never forget what they're made for. I've never wanted a "trailer queen" car or the bow equivalent...or a high-maintenance woman for that matter.

This bow definitely has a soul. (Pics for Blacktailbob)

Primitive Pete, I like the way you think!  Interesting post.

My "Anniversary" bow, my fantastic wife had Mike Dunnaway at Wild Horse Creek Bows build me a Kestrel for our 25th anniversary. That one has a little soul for sure .
