I haven't seen this mentioned...when making a 64 inch bow do cut the bamboo at 64? Or is the 64 measured from the nock?

Longcruise

Typically nock to  nock.  I allow at least an inch past the nocks on each end until the final shape of the tips is decided.

+1, always leave a bit extra on the tips and trim to suit afterwards. People measure them both ways, nock to nock and tip to tip but normally it is specified how it is being measured. I prefer nock to nock because that also tells you the string length you are going to need.

My very first post on page one, very first sentence said 64 tip to tip.

Yes sur it did! And I read it!! Was clarifying if that was the actual cut length of the parts or the finished length. As you mentioned,  dont be afraid to ask questions...so I asked!

Flem

Its not a bow until its got nocks, then you get your length. You could have some crazy a$$ long tips on a bow or some tiny nubs and get all kinds of screwed up measurements.

After it's all glued up and comes in too short, I put it on the bow stretcher form over night.

The 64 inches was the length of the materials.

It will be 62.5 inches nock to nock.

Crooked Stic

High on Archery.

kennym

I like the ntn measure cause some folks have bigger tips .
Stay sharp, Kenny.

That's cause you bring your string nocks in 1 inch. I bring them in 3/4"...

:jumper:

Shredd

If you have really really big tips, will that effect your nock placement??  And how big should you make your nocks if you want small tips and visa versa??   :goldtooth:

Mad Max

#157
I made them 64" anyway, see the nock at the end of the boo

Roughing out a shape. Is this desirable?
