I have a friend who has a ranch about 40 minutes from my house. I have hunted with him for years, since way before I moved out here. Those hunts played a good part of the decision to buy the place where we now live. Anyway, he called me and asked if I wanted to come hunt with him this past weekend. With all the pandemic stuff going on, I have not seen him in almost a year.

I got there Saturday afternoon, and that is when he told me it was his birthday! He was born on halloween, and was 73yrs old!!! Man, I hope I can still hunt when I'm 73!!!

That afternoon we headed to our blinds. There is a large herd of free range axis all through this area, and I was really hoping to get a shot at one of them. That first afternoon I saw a couple turkey gobblers, a bunch of whitetails, and 4 pigs. My buddy hates pigs and they are always fair game. Anyway, there was a sow and a boar about 75#, and 2 smaller pigs there. The sow finally worked her way into about 11yds, and I didn't hesitate. My shot was higher that I wanted, and I was a bit worried as they tore off out of there. After a few minutes, I decided to get out and see if I had a blood trail before it got dark. For the first 10yds there was nothing. Then a great blood trail started. I looked up, and there the sow laid, not 25yds from where I had shot here. Being a sow, and in that weight range, this was perfect little eater pig!

I got the pig all quartered up and in a cooler. As we went to bed, we both were wondering if the clocks on our phones were gonna change on their own, as it was the end of daylight savings Tim's that night. All was well, and we were awaken at the proper time the next morning.

I went to a different stand Sunday morning. As it got light I could make out deer in front of me. After it got light enough to see well, I could see it was several does and one little spike buck. After watching a while, I decided to take a doe if I got a good chance. After a hood while, one of the does finally assumed the "dead deer position" at about 12yds, and I let an arrow fly. The shot looked perfect, and the deer tore off to my left. After waiting a bit, I got out to start looking. There was. I blood!!!!! Like no blood anywhere. I started to doubt what I thought I had seen at the shot. I went down a trail in the direction she had run, and she was down for the count about 40yds out. My shot was exactly where I thought it had been. The broadhead was 1.5" wide, and sharp too. I can't explain why they don't bleed out sometimes. It just happens???

Anyway, here's my doe. She will make great table fare!!!

I shot both with my Primal Tech recurve(50#@29.5"), Easton Axis FMJ arrows prettied by by our own Gary Hall, and a 150gr German Kinetic XL broadhead.

Bisch,   I've had that happen a few times.  Every time it was a heart shot and I assume the heart stopped beating so no blood.

Good shooting!

Dang Bisch, I didn't realize you weren't 73 yet!
Congratulations on a couple of nice kills.  Sounds line he is a great friend to turn the slayer loose on his place.
That's four deer so far this season yes?
I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.
