Sold my tree stand last year. Got my tree seat and already seen as many deer this year as all of last year in two hunts. Here are some pics and have to say this is the way to hunt. More comfortable setup takes 30 seconds not 30 minutes and moving when winds change is easy. Hopefully deer in the freezer to come. Headed to boeuf this weekend with will.

Totally agree. I think I don't get busted as much on the ground either.

This time of year you can definitely see better on the ground than in a tree stand.

I'm on the ground now too and for early season I like sneakers to hunt in as well. Much quieter than boots. I prefer setting up in the shadows. Also pick routes to my "spot" by staying in the shadows as I go. Either way its a ton of fun.

Third year on the ground. Stopped climbing trees when Medicare kicked in as I wasn't sure I could afford the insurance co-pay if I happened to take the quick way down to the ground. I enjoy the mobility, close-up views of wildlife, not sweating like after most tree climbs, not removing stand(s) in the cold and snowy December weather and a nice safe nap on a warm and sunny early afternoon in the woods. I do almost all my practice shooting from a seated position. Change is hard, but often, change is good.

Another good thing about ground hunting; it's easier to get a good double lung shot and the deer is not so thick.

Another reason I switched. Angles are important and I do like my tree seat naps

I like the versatility of hunting on the ground. No avoiding the perfect spot because of inadequate trees. Plus having deer up close on the ground is a lot more intense than being 20 feet above them!

Have been restricted hunting solely from the ground since 2008....went thru a lengthy learning curve and am still learning.....typically make between 80 and 105 hunts per deer season...passed on 47 solid separate shot opportunities at bucks out of 83 hunts last season... a far cry from 2 to 3 opportunities at any deer over a season.

Those chairs are great. I have three of them. One in each Xenek ground blind that I hunt from. Ground hunting is exciting. I took my first trad deer from a brush blind a few years back. I still hunt from ladder stands also. The ground setup adds a lot of flexibility to hunting.

Has anyone tried using some of the superlight pack seats that backpackers are using? Most sit you on the ground or only a few inches above it but they look decently comfortable and pack down to nothing. I'm curious if anyone has any experience with them before I bite the bullet. Some reason places like REI don't like the idea of me testing to see if i can reach full draw in their store....

Last weekend I was setting on a stump with a button buck at eight feet. He was busy pulling up young tree shoots. Then a doe came behind and winded me. Still took her twenty minutes to quit investigating and finally leave. Really enjoy ground hunting.

I have a folding camp stool I pack in with me. Don't have to leave it in the woods, pack it in & out with me as it has a shoulder strap. I have a camo cushion I pack in in mt day pack. Makes for a comfortable sit with a bad back.

Millennium Tree seat. Great investment. As a guy that only gets to make 10 to 15 hunts per year. Tree stands dont make sense.
